Tipping tour guide in Iceland

I always find the etiquette for tipping abroad a minefield, particularly after my one and only trip to the USA where tipping seemed expected for everything! I'm booked to go to Iceland in August and have booked a private tour (my family only with a private driver for a day) plus a group bus tour. How much is suggested for a suitable tip? Google doesn't give much away. The trip is paid for by a small inheritance, we are not huge earners and the tours are extremely expensive so I want to get the balance between enough to be none offensive but something we can actually afford!

I live in Iceland so I have quite a lot of local knowledge. The guides will not expect you to tip but will no doubt be very happy if you do. If you choose to, I would not give more
than a token amount. Perhaps 1000kr (about £6)z

Tipping isn’t a big thing there. Our guide said he enjoyed our company and didn’t want one.
