If so how were the queues? Flying with emirates on Thursday, pm flight, check in is at 5pm.

I've heard horror stories of people taking hours to get through security. We can't check in until 5.15, so no point getting there much earlier I guess?

Terminal 1 if that makes a difference

We flew last Thursday- terminal 1. EasyJet- bag drop took ten minutes then total 15 minutes in security- for four of us. We then had three hours to kill in the airport!

Really quick and easy

Family flew out of T3 Friday afternoon- checked in online and took cabin bags only to avoid having to potentially queue for check in and bag drop.

They were through security in 15 minutes.

So had to wait 3 hours landslide in a cafe!

But the flight was then delayed 2 hours - the airline said because of lack of availability of baggage handling and other staff to unload and turn round the incoming aircraft, then they were sat in the runway for ages waiting for a take off slot.

I think with a 5pm departure you should be gone- the early mornings seem to be the issue.

A friend of mine flew out on Saturday, flight at 5pm from T1 I think. He had a fast track pass from when they were still selling those but said he didn't need it - security was very quick (c. 15 mins). Check in and baggage drop looked like carnage.

I think later on in the day seems to be going fairly smoothly from what I've read.

We're flying with EasyJet from T1 this Thurs morning 8am, with another 7 EasyJet flights going in the hour before us - I'm dreading it!
We do have security fast passes though.

Good luck!

What time was your flight @idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb ?

What were the queues like for food/bar/shops once you got through security?

@BettyOBarley we flew at 11 so got there for 8 as told by easyJet. Queues were normal for shops/restaurants. We got sat down and served for breakfast within 15 mins then had a wander around the shops- no big queues

We flew out early on Fri morning - got there v early (2.5hrs before flight time) but all was fine, no delay, biggest queue was for Costa.

Flew home Sunday afternoon, again got there early, again got through security v quickly; flight was three hours late due to delays at Manchester (related to baggage) so we were quite late home but it just meant we left at 7.30pm not 4.30pm. tbh I expect a delay in a flight somewhere along the line so that seems reasonable to me. We were through security and out very very quickly once landed in Manchester - like 15 mins.

Caveat - we had no check-in luggage and I would always avoid that if at all possible tbh. Cannot believe the size of cases some people take on holiday.

Thank you all for responding, I didn't want to add to the issues by getting there too early, sounds like it's business as usual getting through security. Just need to remortgage the house to buy a cuppa and sarnie whilst we are there Grin

Flew out of Manchester last Tuesday and it was a nightmare. 90 minutes in security! It was early in the morning. The flight took off on time though which was something.

I flew out yesterday, flight was originally 18.55 but ended up being delayed an hour. Got to the airport at 4pm. About 15 minutes to drop bag then just under one hour at security. All bars and restaurants were busy, queued for 10-15 minutes or so to get a drink and sit in one of the bars

My friends flew Monday, had a nightmare. Flight originally 6pm, didn't leave until 9pm. Also huge queues to get through security etc.

We made it to Dubai with no issues, an hour to check in, the. 1/2 hour through security and the plane left on time. We flew with emirates, but I think we were extremely lucky, all other flights were delayed to the following day, all short haul at least. People were really (and understandably) pissed off.
