Granada or Seville (or both)

We are going to Spain this summer, staying near Ronda in Andalucia.

Wondering whether to plan a trip to either Seville or Granada. I have been to both before but not for decades. Will be travelling with two (generally jolly and up for stuff) teens.

The drive to either will be about 2 hours, so it will mean an early start and getting home late. Would you do it? Either or both? Anything you'd recommend to do or skip? (The Alhambra would definitely be on the list if we go to Granada.)

Thank you.

If you go to the Alhambra make sure you book in advance. Definitely worth a visit. Haven't been to Seville though so I can't comment on that.

Both cities are are worth seeing. If you can only do one, I’d choose the Grenada and the Alhambra.

we also really liked Córdoba.

Absolutely do both of them. So very different but both fabulous. We went between them by train so can’t comment on the driving. Book the Alhambra in advance for the early morning, and apart from one bit which your ticket is timed for, you can spend as long as you like. Also walk up to the gypsy area above the river. So interesting.

Grenada is amazing. The Alhambra is stunning and so peaceful on a hot day with all its water fountains and shady bowers. The food is great, the views over the Sierra Nevada are stunning, there are ancient ruins of baths if that's your thing, there are cave dwellings. It's just so different from Uk and so interesting to explore.

Both, and Cordoba.

Both. I have really fond memories of a road trip DH and I did to Andalusia pre-DC - we flew into Malaga, then did a few days in Granada, then Seville then flew out of Jerez.

Would you be up for staying in Granada overnight? That might make the travel easier and wandering up into the Albacin to have tapas in the square at the top of the hill and to see the Alhambra lit up across the valley from the nearby viewpoint is spectacular.

Then you would be well placed to do El Caminito del Rey on the way back the next day.

Seville and Cordoba are also great, but Seville needs a few days, so unless you're going for a couple of weeks, perhaps plan to go back another time, stay in Seville and have a day trip to Cordoba by train.

Ooh both

Annexlife · 30/05/2022 18:39

If I had to chose one Granada with prebooked tickets to Alhambra. If no ticket, Seville

sansou · 31/05/2022 00:10

I recommend visiting the Caminito del Rey & you need to book tickets a few weeks in advance.

They are both beautiful but I would avoid them in the summer, Seville is the hottest place in Europe and will be unbearable in the peak summer . Stay on the coast and revisit Seville in the late Autumn or early Spring .

We took 3 teens to Seville in Feb and they adored Setas - the mushrooms. Go at sunset and have them take loads of photos - we were up there for hours!
