Going with DH and 18mo DS,
somewhere central but not too expensive!

Princess Sophia is where we stayed. Was fab. Will try to find llink

screaminghabdabs · 12/01/2008 23:11

We stayed here with DDwww.camper.com/web/en/casacamper.asp

book a suite if there's one available - they're not much more expensive. Fab, modern and kid friendly hotel in the middle of the city and all day free snack bar ;)

Thank you, both, I will lok into those options.
I saw that camper hotel somewhere, it looks fun.
do you remember how much it cost? (ish)

H10 Hotels are lovely... I took my mum to the one on Universitat... very central.

Also, 30 seconds walk from the aerobus.. Hotel Barcelona at 2 Carrier de Casp.

And me and the DCs spent a week at Hotel Splendid on Muntaner.

Been to barcelona about seven times now... I never tire of it. DS is nagging to go again this year and take a mate.

screaminghabdabs · 12/01/2008 23:30

I booked it through www.i-escape.com last year.

Just checked now and the rates are 265 euros for double (with separate mini lounge) and 295 euros for kingsize bed and big open plan large lounge. Both en-suite and inc breakfast and all day hot and cold snacks which were great for the kids.

Great hotel. I think the prices may have gone up since we went when it was newly opened

themoon66 · 12/01/2008 23:30

hotelconnect.co.uk have some deals on... 4 night for price of three etc. I have a code... 'newyear'

Oh fab, can I share this thread with you SleepIsForTheWeek? I am going away with dp, without children, for the first time in 9 years! Have got flights but no accommodation as of yet

themoon66 · 12/01/2008 23:32

someone at work told me to look at travelrepublic.co.uk and they do seem cheaper than others. I was given a code... DRIVER5 for that one.

SleepIsFoTheWeak · 12/01/2008 23:37

ooooh, lots to choose from now thanks!
Hi Rodeo of course we can share....

Ooh you're a lot sooner than me! We're off on 6th-8th April Great, will look through links tomorrow, feel like I'm getting indigestion, probably just been hunched over laptop too long!

SleepIsFoTheWeak · 12/01/2008 23:49

DAMN! I just realised I have booked flights with Ryanair but their Barcelona airport is 1.3 hours from Barcelona city!
And Easyjet's is only 20 mins!
Gutted, mainly as DS will be very adgitated but I guess we will get to see some scenery.
These cheap airlines have no refuns on cancellaation, don't they?
Ah well.....

SleepIsForTheWeek - That just the kind of place we were looking for! Great hotel hunting! I owe you one!

Hi SIFTW, have looked at TripAdvisor and don't want confuse matters but it has mixed reviews, negative ones mainly about noise which wouldn't bother me to be honest, but also has good ones too esp. about room 904. I have found this on trip advisor which has good reviews and is still reasonable, thought it would be worth a look if you hadn't booked yet - Hotel Constanza
scroll down for reviews Hope this helps, or have I made things worse? Sorry!

SleepIsForTheWeak · 14/01/2008 09:51

Oh thanks!
I found it on the guardian website, and it had great reviews there.
I have already booked but can cancel, will look at your reviews, thanks!
I saw another great one, search for Petit Palace Opera Garden on hotelconect.co.uk

Nedmum · 14/01/2008 09:58

Can I just say to avoid the Vincci Candal Mar. Its beautiful and trendy and whatnot but in a bit of a scummy area. we went 18 months ago and a thief waked into restsaurant bold as brass and took mums handbag. then went outside with the car keys, pressed them to see which lit up (clever little cow) and took the car too. We had to get all the way home without mums passport, travel documents etc. thank god it was pre-ds. sorry, got a bit carried away. but yes, avoid it, security's lax to say the least

SleepIsForTheWeak · 14/01/2008 10:07

Oh, Rodeo, ignore that hotel I just suggested! I searched it on trip advisor and it was more or less slated!
I have asked if room 904 is available, holding thumbs!

SleepIsForTheWeak · 14/01/2008 13:09

Nedmum, \thanks for the heads up!

Rodeo · 18/01/2008 23:31

Have finally booked a hotel (after becoming rather obsessed with trawling TripAdvisor/venere.com/expedia etc!) - Ayre Hotel Gran Via, got good rates off the venere website. Anyway hope this will now stop my obsessive-ness! Thanks for the help Enjoy your trip and let us know how you get on!
