Passport renewal

We are off to France in October, and 3/4 of our passports need to be renewed. If we do this this month we are going to be left very short, but should manage if we do it at the end of June - is this cutting it too fine?
There would be 14 weeks between renewing and travel if we do it in June.

I sent mine off mid-April and received it this week. Varied for different people and offices. But it depends whether the lead time of 10weeks is extended further based on higher volumes in June...

I would say on the face of it that you should be fine to do it in June!

It's so different for everyone at the moment. I sent my application off on 4 May and got my new passport back yesterday! Sod's law I don't need it for a while yet either.

ChateauMargaux · 27/05/2022 07:48

June is 3 working days away... shouldn't make that much difference.

Sorry to be unclear - I meant the end of June.

DS passport expires 19/4/23, if we are leaving France on the 14/10/22 does this have enough time on his passport? I've read conflicting advice. This would leave 6 months validity between coming home and expiry? If I can just renew two then I will!

Thank you everyone for your advice x

Its 3 months validity plus the passport less than 10 years old for Schnegan area.

ladydimitrescu · 27/05/2022 08:31

His is less than ten years old, and will have 6 months left from the date we return.

If I renew on June payday, it would be 14 weeks until travel. I may have to risk it to be honest as we have unexpected expenses this month that can't be put off.

Ours took 3 weeks.
Surely the massive rush for school summer holiday passports has peaked and the system will get faster from here on in.
I'd have thought sending on 1st sept would be fine but definitely don't leave it that long just in case. June will be fine

Hi, make sure you apply ONLINE! biggest mistake i made by doing it paper. My friend sent his online and I countersigned on 01/05....he has received his childs passport in 3 weeks.

Where as I renewed using the post end of March and I have flights booked for 30/05...unfortunately I am having to cancel. I wish i took my own advice but this was before the whole backlog

Ikky123 · 27/05/2022 17:19

It needs to be 3 months remaining on the day you fly back to UK

He needs 3 months remaining not 6.

My ds's renewal took 3 weeks recently. Application done online with a photo taken with my phone

ladydimitrescu · 27/05/2022 17:23

Fantastic! So I shouldn't need to renew Ds and I will absolutely do it online - thank you so so much for all the advice and help!

My DH sent his off 3 weeks ago, he's got it back now. We are south east and his went to London. I think it seems to depend on which office your passport gets sent to. I have read a lot about issues with Durham and Liverpool.

ScootsMcHoy · 27/05/2022 17:58

And make sure your 'countersigner' is primed and ready for action.

Toottooot · 27/05/2022 18:00

I applied for my renewal 3 weeks ago - arrived last week in under 2 weeks.
