It's a rather urgent Passport one!

DD applied for a replacement passport online. The application shows as 'being processed' I have just managed to secure an appt in London for early June for the 1 week premium service. Whats I can't see, is how I cancel the application that's being processed, as Im sure we don't want two applications running at the same time. Any wise words? Thanks!

You need to send a letter to withdraw your original application but they are taking a while to open mail at the moment. People are being turned away if they have an active application in when they attend a fast track appointment.

How long has the original one been processing?

Onesipmore · 26/05/2022 17:18

@Dontstoprunning since April 26th. I was going to stick with it, but it transpires she needs a passport for 15th June for an application to join the Police, so didn't want to run the risk ! I couldn't see an address or anywhere to send a letter! Also is it just a letter from her, or a form to fill in? arrrgggh!

Won't her birthday certificate do for the police ?

ahwobabob · 26/05/2022 17:27

Cancelling it takes time. I called them to see if I could book a fast track and cancel the other one. They told me they won't process the fast track one until the other has been cancelled, which can take 2-3weeks. You won't get your money back for either route. You are best appealing for fast track when you have less than 2weeks before you need it. They will then expedite your current application.

ahwobabob · 26/05/2022 17:29

Surely the police need her passport for proof of identity and right to work. Have you asked for leniency from them until it is renewed?

Snowiscold · 26/05/2022 17:29

Are you sure she needs a passport? That doesn’t sound right. Sometimes if it’s for ID, an expired passport will do, and of course a birth certificate.

What about all the people who don’t have passports? They’re not compulsory documents.

Onesipmore · 26/05/2022 17:32

@Mrsjayy yes will take Birth certificate, but she also has a holiday booked the week after, so killed two birds with one stone.
@ahwobabob bit worried now, she won't get either ! Ive already paid just now for the go and see them get it in a week job !Do you just write to the general passport office cancelling? Think Ive ballsed up now!

OP posts:
Onesipmore · 26/05/2022 17:34

@Snowiscold they will take other forms of ID yes, but she also has a holiday booked shortly afterwards, so I just decided to kill two birds with one stone and book a one week fast track. Hadn't factored in how long it might take to cancel the one running at the moment!

Mrsjayy · 26/05/2022 17:35

I'm not being funny but isn't this her problem not yours you haven't ballsed anything up it was applied for in April

clarrylove · 26/05/2022 17:36

I wouldn't be cancelling anything yet! It's still a month till she needs it so it's not urgent.

The birth certificate will be fine for the right to work check.

Onesipmore · 26/05/2022 17:41

@Mrsjayy yes, you are quite right this isn't 'my problem' it's her problem. That doesn't quite solve what happens next though.
@clarrylove yes, maybe I should just leave the current application running and see if its processed prior to the appt booked. But then if I dont cancel they won't let me. in on the appt booked !

GucciPearls · 26/05/2022 17:42

you Have to send them a letter withdrawing your application, then wait to hear for them. As you can have two applications open. So I doubt you will be able to attend your fast track app

Onesipmore · 26/05/2022 17:44

@GucciPearls This is what Im worried about. I guess I could cancel the existing one and then push back the date for the in person one.

OP posts:
clarrylove · 26/05/2022 17:49

Don't cancel the original application. Just sit tight. I'm sure it's in hand. What does the online tracker say?

With 2 weeks to go, if you still haven't had it, you can escalate to the priority team. If necessary, you can just turn up and wait with no appointment My friend did that this week and got it same day.

Barelyable · 26/05/2022 18:12

We applied for one the week before you and got it last week. From the status 'being processed' to 'being sent' was around 3 days. Really efficient and I was panicking about a holiday in August!

Onesipmore · 26/05/2022 18:14

@clarrylove thank you for the voice of reason !
@Barelyable fingers crossed. God knows what possessed me to book the in person one. Guess will lose that money now.
Lesson learned !

Dh got his last week 4 days after he got his processing update so fingers crossed. TNT delivered it.

Crackercrazy · 26/05/2022 18:50

My teenage DS recently got his back - it was a renewal though, but the whole process only took 2 weeks, which I was really impressed with.

Mindymomo · 26/05/2022 18:56

I managed to get through to an online chat after trying for a few days, but I did manage after waiting patiently. You can try and cancel application this way.

Onesipmore · 14/06/2022 22:58

Really panicking now as the status on the application has now changed back from being processed to checked references. However this was done in April. not sure what to do next other than call them!
