Help! Lost passports and travelling on Saturday!

We are supposed to be going on holiday on Saturday but have lost our passports. I have literally spent the last 24 hours turning the house upside down and they are not here. I can only conclude that i chucked them out by mistake or someone nicked them (we have had a nanny and a couple of workmen in the house but noone I think would steal them). Tried to book a fast track appointment to replace them and it says no appointment available and from what i am reading we are not going to be able to get one for weeks at best. We can't cancel the flights and DS is going to miss the football tour we were going to. The flights was extortionate as well. I honestly feel like jumping off a cliff.

Phew OP, so pleased for you

RishiRich · 23/05/2022 16:18

Amazing! I would be wobbly with relief. I hope you all have a fantastic time and your DS enjoys the football. Did the DC know there was a problem?

Pavlova31 · 23/05/2022 16:20

So so pleased for you Op and all is now well for your trip 😁

Honeypickle · 23/05/2022 16:20

Yay! Great news! And now I have to go and check on my own family’s set of passports, just in case!

Only I have a 2nd passport, not DSs.

In any event, I am delighted to report that THEY HAVE BEEN FOUND!

They were in the drawer in my office where I always keep them and which I have checked about 100 times. They had somehow stuck themselves or got caught onto the bottom of the drawer above so not visible. We only found them because I was talking to DH and pulled out a drawer in frustration to do a final check and DH caught a glimpse of something red and said hang on, and there they were! I would not have spotted them otherwise.

Thanks all the kindness and support during a horrible 48 hours and for all the tips about checking the bottom of drawers (which I didn't actually do!)

BritWife and Maisie81 you can both bog off. Not so careless now right????

Not careless, but definitely too keen to jump to blaming other people when, as everyone was telling you, it was just a case of looking properly.

DarleneSnell · 23/05/2022 16:21

Great news OP! I can see why your mind wandered to stolen as a possibility - once you feel you've literally exhausted everything else you inevitably think, what else could it be?! So glad it wasn't that though. Have a great trip!

Fitterbyfifty · 23/05/2022 16:23

I am so glad you found them!! As a fellow loser-of-passports-but-finding-them-at-the-last-minute person I can sense your relief!!

I'm so happy you found them 😘

madmumofteens · 23/05/2022 16:31

Yay so glad to hear that you found them OP nothing worse than not being able to find something x

She doesn't like to admit blane by the looks of it, so it's workmen etc. Or indeed the kids dad. No possible way she could have done it

OP literally said multiple times that she might have thrown them away herself by mistake. You go through all kinds of thoughts when you can't find something. Imagine being as picky over someone being upset they lost something as you lot have been 🤨

OP, so glad you found them!! Now relax :)

rookiemere · 23/05/2022 16:34

Brilliant I've been lurking for a positive update Smile

SoupDragon · 23/05/2022 16:35

Not so careless now right

apart from in your searching 😂😂

so glad you found them - this kind of thing happen to me a lot. Somewhere I read the advice "if you can't find something, go back to where it should be and look properly this time". It is right embarrassingly often.

Beautiful3 · 23/05/2022 16:37

Yay! I'm so pleased you found them! Enjoy your holiday.

HellyR · 23/05/2022 16:38

Op when you'd posted you'd checked the back of all drawers i nearly posted again saying check all the surfaces not just the back! That's two for two so far on MN that have been stuck to an internal drawer surface!

Dozycuntlaters · 23/05/2022 16:47

Glad you found them OP. I had exactly this, needed my passport to get some documents notarised, couldn't find it for love nor money. Looked in the drawer I keep it in about a million times, not there. Had to get a new one, and when it arrived and I went to put it in the drawer there was my old one winking at me. It was stood on it's side so obviously in my panic I just didn't see it which seems crazy given the fact I checked it so many times.

Have a fab holiday!

Shelby2010 · 23/05/2022 16:48

Great news! Have a fab holiday!

TokyoTen · 23/05/2022 16:49

So pleased you found them OP what a nightmare!

2bazookas · 23/05/2022 16:50

Have you had to use them other than for travel; for instance at the bank, or for any legal work, as "proof of identity"? If so you might have filed them away with bank/legal stuff.
Otherwise I'd be checking every secret pocket in all the suitcases and travel bags; and any "holiday handbag" or day bag you've not used since your last trip abroad. Does anyone have one of those fanny bags that travellers wear round their waist?

Electriq · 23/05/2022 16:50

Glad you found them op, get yourself a little passport bag thats not small enough to get lost so easily, I say this after similar incidents, enjoy your break

sweetgrapes · 23/05/2022 16:50

Great outcome OP!! Enjoy your holiday!

I did similar with DD's bus pass - checked the drawer 3 times - then showed dh - look - it's not here. But there it was!!

I blame the house fairies!

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 23/05/2022 16:53

I was just about to comment on the thread that I had lost my DC's passport before their ski trip at Easter and was tearing my hair out for two weeks but found it - when I saw your update.
I feel for you its such a worry.
I keep passports in the second drawer of filing cabinet in a grey plastic folder. My son's wasn't there.

I searched and searched and cursed myself for ruining DC's trip - why wasn't I more careful? etc.. I moved furniture when through oceans of paper and was desperate.

Eventually DH found it in the nick of time.
in the second drawer of the filing cabinet
in a second similar grey folder.. next to the first grey folder where it should have been - all along

Enjoy your hols.

Hoppinggreen · 23/05/2022 16:55

Really happy to hear you have found them.
I hope you all have a lovely trip x

Nonbio46 · 23/05/2022 16:57

Yay! Happy holidays op. 🏝xxx

tribpot · 23/05/2022 16:57

Bloody hell, OP. The relief.

I think like many on this thread I am going to check our passports every week until we go away, even though they live in a fire safe 😆

Were all three passports there, or just those of your dses?

HellyR · 23/05/2022 16:58

Nearly went and told my DH "good news, they've found their passports" before realising he wouldn't have a clue what I'm talking about Grin I need to get out more...
