Greek Island(s) without a car?

DH and I hoping to send about a week on a Greek island in September this year- but there seem to be so many islands I'm feeling a little overwhelmed in my research!

Things that are important to us:

  • Not a large touristy resort type place
  • Options for walking and hiking around the island
  • Some nice beaches
  • Good food!

We're looking for a relaxing trip with some peace and quiet. We love walking and exploring, less bothered about spending a week lying on a beach sunbathing- but wouldn't mind a small bit of course :)

I was looking at Kefalonia originally, then a friend recommended Skiathos

Any recommendations please?

I’ve only been to kephslonia. Loved it. Didn’t have a car, stayed in fiskardo. Hire e-bikes a couple of days. It’s so green.

Skiathos is great and very easy without a car as there's a regular bus along the island's main road. It is quite touristy (mainly Skiathos town) as it has an airport but it was fine and not rammed in May. It was very green and lush and there are quite a few walking trails and a nature reserve at Koukounaries (spelling?) at the tip of the island. The people were also lovely and friendly.

I went to Skiathos in 1991 and went to Koukounaries! Banana beach it was called then!!
