Stopover in France between Calais & Switzerland (Metz/Nancy?)

We’re driving from the tunnel to Lucerne, Switzerland in the summer and need somewhere to stop off overnight. I want to get about 4 of 5 hours of driving done on the first day which takes us to the area around Nancy & Metz. Anyone been to either of these cities or anywhere around there that they’d recommend? Ideally somewhere we can have a wonder around for a few hours in the late afternoon, get some food and a few hours exploring the next morning before we set off again.

Oh yes it's by far the best theme park in Europe- I love it!

Luxembourg as a country is somewhere fab to go on holiday.

We stopped off on Nancy but stayed in Reims in an Airbnb. Nancy was pretty, we wandered around for about 4 hours. Reims was lovely wander around too.

if you’re going to use public transport (including buses, boats and many cable cars) it’s often worth getting a Halbtax Karte www.sbb.ch/en/leisure-holidays/inspiration/international-guests/swiss-halffare-card.html . You can Google the fares and see if it’s worth the outlay, but we normally find it is.

Another vote for Nancy, for the reasons given above. It's definitely worth a visit, especially if the son et lumiere us in. I'll check its proper name and post later.

Troyes is beautiful

The son et lumiere in Nancy is called 'Rendezvous' and takes place in Place Stanislas, every evening in summer.
We stayed in the Novotel Suites, about 15 minutes walk from Place Stanislas. The hotel had parking.
