Plane seating rules for infants?

Hi all,

Me, my partner and our 2 children (2 under 2) are thinking of going to Spain in a couple of months.

We are all wanting to sit together. My partner suffers from anxiety so it's better and more comfortable for everyone involved than being sat apart.

I know you can't have 2 infants on each parents lap in the same row due to the oxygen masks. But, if I purchased a separate seat for my 20 month old, would that mean we could all sit together on the same row with our other child on my partners lap?

Thanks.

Yes. In that situation you would only need one extra oxygen mask, as one would already be assigned to the seat your 20 month old is in.

Could you book two aisle seats directly across from each other - would that count as seating together for your partner?

Or does the airline only provide infant masks on a window seat? It’s (or was) the case in some aircraft.

Unfortunately, like you said, it’s about the oxygen masks. Buying an extra seat on the same row won’t change the mask provision above your heads.

Actually, ignore my last sentence. I was thinking of a 2-2 configuration instead of 3-3 for some reason so yes, I believe you would have 3 (+1) masks if you bought three seats together. Check with the airline and see what plane will fly your route.

Yes. We have booked an extra seat before for under 2, you just need to contact airline as they will give you how to book it. Usually you book under first name ‘comfort’ second name ‘seat’ for example. Then call or online chat to name change for free.

Under 2 have to be on an adult’s lap for take off, landing and when the seat belt sign is lit even if they have their own seat.
