Where would you stay near Turin with 9 + 11yr old DC?

We finally booked flights for early July (Scottish school hols) and Turin was the cheapest Italian flight, so that's where we're going. What should we see and do; where should we stay?

DDs love swimming and nature, quite interested in ruins and churches, love animals. DH and I don't mind as long as there's a nice Italian feel and a place for a drink in the evening (early, with kids).

I'd really welcome any steers - or maybe we just can't go wrong? So excited to be able to go abroad again!

Aosta is nice, the town and the valley.

There are some fantastic castles on mountainsides as you go up into Aosta. Truly awesome.

I love Saluzzo and the little villages around it. They have a big local festival in August which is gorgeous but I’m not sure what activities they plan for July. There is the old town, market, lots of places to walk and restaurants to try. Truly Italian in feel.
