Corfu or Crete?
Rnm62 · 16/05/2022 15:46
Hi,
Me, my partner and 2 young children are hoping to go to one of the Greek islands this September as a change as none of us have ever been before. We're mostly leaning towards either Crete or Corfu atm.
Does anyone have any recommendations about which is the nicest?
Hoping for warm weather, nice beaches, bars/restaurants and good food.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you!

I absolutely love both, but if you go to one of the main tourist spots, they're much the same. Research the resort before you go and should be fine. Have a great time.

In September I would choose Crete as it's getting to the end of season and you can get rain in Corfu.

I've been to both-had a lovely time but preferred Corfu. It's smaller and old town is beautiful. We stayed at the Kontokali Beach Hotel which was lovely. I would advise hiring a car.

Following as we are wanting to go to Crete in September but finding Corfu is a bit better value for money so considering Corfu instead now.

I personally prefer crete. Especially Chania and Rethymnon, beautiful old towns with pretty harbours.

Chania does look beautiful!

I love Corfu and have been before in both September and October. September weather was fantastic, October was a bit more hit and miss but it's a rainy island and so that was the risk. I am off to Crete (Chania side) in a couple of weeks and can't wait. As Crete is further south I think you'd be better there in September but both Islands are beautiful.

@MiniCooperLover you Will love it. We are off to Chania next week😁

Crete. Definitely.
I adore Chania but Rethymno might offer you more with small children.

Thank you! I'm very excited. It's been years since I've been to Crete (the last few years I've always gone to Corfu but it was later in the year) and I'm going on my own for 4 nights. Have a wonderful trip, where are you staying?
CeeJay81 · 18/05/2022 18:02
@MiniCooperLover we are staying in kato daratso(just 3 miles from centre of Chania). I'd love to go on my own without the kids, just soak up the atmosphere, Potter around chania and people watch. Where are you staying?
Ladywiddio · 18/05/2022 18:05
Crete in September.Corfu is in the Ionian Islands,a lot further north.I have been in September and had a lot of rain,

I'm staying in a hotel close to Chania, in an area called Apostoloi, apparently it's about 5 minutes outside of Chania in a taxi. I'm looking forward to just chilling and relaxing and an afternoon exploring Chania.
CeeJay81 · 18/05/2022 18:17
@MiniCooperLover That's the area we are staying. It's also refered to as kato daraso. Agii apostolii is the beach(well all 3 of them)
We are staying at Althea village(tui suneo).
