Renewing passport - do I need a countersignatory - will they recognise my photo?!

My photo for my last passport was taken when I was 22. I’m now 43. I think I’m still just about recognisable (though the difference is depressing!). Anyone know how strict they are with requiring countersignatories in situations like this?! Wondering whether I need to bother getting one. Thanks!

Don't worry about the photo. They have trained professionals who can spot if it is the same face or not despite aging.
