Passport Waiting.....

Hi,
Trying to get a balanced idea of the Passport waiting hell that is sweeping the nation!!
Dd passport came back in less than 2 weeks, DS, which was received in the passport office on the same day is still nowhere to be seen.
We travel in 10 weeks....
Have many people had to wait more than 10 weeks???
I'm thinking of waiting until the 6 week mark and then trying to get an urgent appointment. Will they let us get an appointment if the original application has been sent??
I really want to go on holiday this year😭😭
Thank you

I did 3 kids renewals 20th April, online applications had to send old passports back to 3 different addresses, 1 back in just over a week 1 took 3 weeks and one I’m still waiting only got notification last wk that they have received old passport last wk although they signed for it 23rd April! You can’t do anything to fasttrack etc until it’s been 10 wks until they recieved old passports,
I’ve got my eye on flights for 2nd wk of July but daren’t book yet 😬

I sent 2 x adult renewal applications three weeks ago. They went to the same passport office (Peterborough). Have had messages saying they have been printed and will be dispatched shortly. Messages were one day apart.

TheyForgetMyName · 15/05/2022 17:55

We got confirmation they received applications on 20th April. Do you think I can call and cancel it then book a fast track. Think I'm going to spend the day on the phone tmw

@TheyForgetMyName What office is your missing passport at? I have 5 applications for renewal at Durham done on 14 April they acknowledged receipt of old passports on 26 April and nothing since then.

SheAndHerAreWomen · 16/05/2022 11:40

3 renewals done on 23rd April. Just had a text from DHL to say one of them is being delivered tomorrow. This was from Peterborough office I think 🤞 The 2 that went to Liverpool don't seem to be much further behind. Keeping everything crossed for you x

TheyForgetMyName · 16/05/2022 11:42

Liverpool. The whole system is in chaos. Its so stressful.

I think Durham is the office that is under preforming at the moment. There is 10 weeks left until we fly and at that point it would be just off 14 weeks since I applied crossing everything they are back in time.

Liverpool was quick for me , just under 3 weeks. Newport was slow , I spoke to someone after 6 weeks and received it a few days later.

tribpot · 16/05/2022 21:06

Newport was quick for me, under three weeks.

I did read you can't cancel and fast track once you'd started the application, though.

I've sent two child renewals in the last couple of weeks - sent off old passports special delivery on the 4th May.

One sent to Liverpool - I received the new passport within 9 days.

One sent to Durham - I have only received confirmation today (16th May) that they have received the old passport although I know both passports were received the same day at Liverpool and Durham.

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 16/05/2022 22:39

Child renewal to Hemel
Hempstead - 2weeks from posting old passport to receiving new one.
Adult renewal to Durham- 3 weeks from posting to receiving. All done in April.

orangina01 · 17/05/2022 07:36

Child renewal to Liverpool, sent April 25th and received yesterday so around three weeks. This is for dual nationality too so am waiting for other passport to be returned but otherwise so far so good!

TwentyFive52 · 17/05/2022 13:10

I sent my application to Liverpool on 27th April, it was printed on 13th May and I received it this morning. Mine was a renewal but it was also my first adult passport which I was warned might make the process longer so I’m quite impressed with turnaround of just under three weeks!

Hopefully you’re not waiting too much longer, OP🤞🏼

Jane077 · 17/05/2022 13:54

I'm feeling more hopeful about mine, although it's still some way of being in my hand. I sent old passport to Peterborough on 4th May and I've just had a message to say it has been received. I'm hoping that it'll be processed relatively quickly as we're travelling 8th July. OP you should be ok if you're travelling in 10 weeks - it does seem like the passport office is getting a bit more under control in the past week or so. Good luck!

TheyForgetMyName · 17/05/2022 23:40

Thanks everyone.
I'm trying to stay positive and just hope that it all works out.
Good luck to everyone still waiting.

Have you tried calling them to chase it up? They offer a call back service.

TheyForgetMyName · 18/05/2022 09:02

Yeah, I've called them. They can only say that they've got it not how long it will take to process.

I’d book the urgent appointment now as if the backlog gets worse (and believe me it’s bad) then upgraded appointments might be urgent travel only.

Lochjeda · 18/05/2022 14:44

I sent two, one went to Durham and took 10 weeks and one went to Liverpool and took under 3. Durham defo seems to be the one with serious issues. If you still have 10 weeks till travel you should be okay.

twistandscream · 18/05/2022 19:56

Exactly three weeks for two adult passport renewals each to a different office. The longest aspect was waiting for the 'documents received' to be entered on the system.
