We've only just had the dates confirmed for our holiday in August, so now looking to book. Am aware we may be too late for many places but please can you tell me your best holiday ideas as I'm a bit overwhelmed!

  • kids are 4 and 7
  • we only have a week so within Europe
  • near coast for beach
  • self catered
  • walking distance to small town for shops/cafes/life
  • a few day trips/culture driving distance away
  • not mega hot as we are fair/ginge!
Thoughts most welcome!

We’ve booked a week at Gammelbro campsite (in one of the wooden ‘cottages’) in Denmark. Mid season prices start on the 8th August because Danish schools go back a lot earlier than most other European countries. It’s got direct access to a sandy beach, an indoor pool with waterslides, a ginormous playground and a craft workshop.

We’re off to Duinrell in The Netherlands. Big campsite with site’s own or Eurocamp/Canvas etc operators. Amusement park on site, incredible pool, lovely town within walking distance. Beach 2.5 ish miles away. Amsterdam, The Hague, Leiden, Delft all close by. UK temperatures so not blistering heat.

Saint Malo or surrounding Brittany in France.

Minorca, Los Delfines/Cala'n Forcat area

All the restaurants and cafes cater for little kids, they have bouncy castles, playgrounds or trampolines near to the tables and they will bring kids meals with your starters if you prefer so then you can watch them playing safely whilst you have main/glass of wine

Good beach too and shortish flight time

Balearics or algarve

Sounds lovely!

I would personally pick Brittany or Normandy with Eurocamp if you are prepared to drive. The site near Carnac is really good

If you want a foreign beach holiday I’d look at the canaries as they are a bit cooler than pretty much everywhere else in August.
