Experience of transiting through Abu Dhabi airport?

Anyone have experience of transiting through Abu Dhabi airport? If so, how did you find it? Was it a straightforward process? Would you recommend it as an easy place to transit through for someone with little experience of having to catch a connecting flight?

I did but it was a long while ago - remember it being fine and quite a beautiful airport randomly. Hopefully someone will have a more recent experience!!

I did it ten days ago. It’s fine. Pretty easy. You do need to go through security again with your hand luggage but don’t need to take anything out of the bags. I find their scanners are sensitive so my underwired bra set it off and I had to get patted down so I’d avoid wearing one next time.

You also queue up and have your hand luggage searched by hand as you go to the gate for your flight and they will take any bottles of liquid. Although I seem to remember that didn’t happen to my husband on a flight to the UK a few years ago so it may not be every flight.

I remember being searched quite aggressively by a very stern (rude) female security officer. I was quite shocked as never had that happen in any airport before, was on my own with a toddler and in transit.

That was some years ago though. The airport was very ornate but don’t remember much else as quite shaken up although we were there for about 8 hours.

I think if I managed to get my connecting flight, you’ll be fine OP😉

Thanks both.
@Peridot1 Re the no liquids rule, are you allowed to have containers of up to 100ml in a clear plastic bag or is there an absolute ban on liquids in hand luggage.

Those liquids are ok. No issues. But they took the bottle of water I had just bought.

We went during Ramadan, no food outlets were open, but I remember there being lots of sunglasses on sale. We should have realised in advance and taken food with us. Beautiful airport though
