NYC and covid

Hi,

We have booked a trip to NYC for my birthday in august. FIL and SIL are covid positive, likely we will be soon too. It's also on the ward in work on.

Does anyone know what happens, will the PCR continue to show positive and stop me from travelling?

I'm not feeling great so I'm sure it'll happen soon, DH booked it as a surprise and I don't think he thought of booking insurance so I'm panicking

Any help would be really appreciated

A PCR could but you’re not obliged to do a PCR test. They also accept antigen test (LFT) so just do one of those instead.

You're fine doing a lateral flow so unless you get Covid just before your trip, nothing to worry about. However, you'd be foolish to go to the US without insurance so suggest you book some asap.

We are just back last week. Its just an antigen test you need for NYC at present. If you have it within 90 days of travelling you can show proof of recovery certificate instead but that depends on if your doctor will issue you one or not

Yes you can just do a lateral flow currently, had to be observed on teleconference though. If you do a PCR now and it’s positive you can use a recovery cert for 90 days but would also need to get a letter from a dr (you can purchase these one line with proof of a positive test). Travel companies are massively lobbying the US gov to remove testing so maybe not need to do anything by august!

It’s a supervised lateral flow you need to do for USA, 24hrs before. We got to the US in August too and I’m hoping they drop the testing as I’m going to be so nervous

The testing requirement likely will be dropped by then anyway.

Or come here by ship. Testing is only required for air arrivals, not land or sea (another reason it should be dropped).
