Hi All. Looking to go further afield next year for our summer holiday. Have 3 DDs, 14, 12, 10. Can anyone recommend any family friendly hotels please? TIA

Assuming you will want to see a bit of the destination, very sadly I’d say avoid Mexico right now. Even the super touristy areas are affected by the utterly out of control drugs war. I love Mexico and have been to various parts, but I wouldn’t take kids right now. (As for Caribbean the only advice I’m qualified to give is not to go to the DR)

Thanks @AtillatheHun that's definitely taken Mexico off the list. I'll start searching more in the Caribbean. European prices are insane right now and I feel like I'd like to spend a little more to get a more once in a lifetime holiday, especially with the DDs growing up (way too fast!).

What sort of trip are you after? For something truly once in a lifetime, but not fully fly / flop - Salalah in Oman. It’s not super hot in July / august as they have a very specific local microclimate with a mini monsoon so you get incredible beaches (water too rough for swimming) / wadi oasis with waterfalls / desert sand dunes all very close together. There are a few truly outstanding hotels. 9 hour flight inc a change in Muscat (also worth a visit but hideously hot in summer) but only 3 hour time change. Fantastic food and hospitality, super safe and culturally interesting. Most other visitors around then will be other gulf Arabs so there’s a lot of women walking 5 paces behind etc (which is very much not the Omani way)

Mexico is lovely.

Sandol Caracol is a lush resort.
DR is also nice.

Jamaica Id recommend too.

We're just back from Mauritius and it was heaven on earth. Would you consider that instead of Caribbean? Time difference is much easier as only 3 hours.

whoruntheworldgirls · 09/05/2022 19:18

Sorry to hijack OP. @FusionChefGeoff were you worried about the testing on arrival for Mauritius? I want to book to go back in August but it worries me one of us could test positive at the hotel then get stuck in quarantine.

What about going to Florida? Maybe fly to Miami, spend a night there, then head across State to somewhere like Naples on the Gulf Coast. Lots of things to do there, like trip on the Everglades plus beautiful beaches too. But it’s the kind of holiday you’d need to rent a car.

Beaches Turks and Caicos is lovely. Also the beaches in Jamaica.
we are going to Mexico this summer - Cancun. I think it will be fine.

FusionChefGeoff · 09/05/2022 19:24

@whoruntheworldgirls we had all just had it but we're testing negative so thankfully not.

Also, at our hotel the test was very perfunctory, not up the nose or down the throat - just a cheek / saliva swab. So not sure it would have picked much up anyway!

whoruntheworldgirls · 09/05/2022 19:31

Thank you @FusionChefGeoff that's reassuring

You would be very unlucky to get caught in drug violence in Mexico but it is there.

Costa Rica was my dc's favorite family holiday by some way.

Just looking at holidays in Mexico. Is there a big seaweed issue there along the coast? Would hate to get all the way there and not be able to get in the sea !
