Costa Rica in May / June - the Green Season?

Planning a trip for 2023 and the only time we can get to Costa Rica seems to be May!

I’m a bit worried about permanent rain…

Has anyone been in May? What do you think?

Also any recommendations of where to go / stay?! We’ll have young children with us.

That's right at the beginning of rainy season so I wouldn't worry, it generally eases in.

I went a few years ago in November. It rained almost none stop on the Caribbean side but I still had an amazing time, regardless. I just had an amazing time in a raincoat.

Costa Rica is the best place I've ever been in my life.

We went in May. It was great weather. A few dramatic storms but pretty perfect.

as above, it’s the most wonderful place on earth. Enjoy

Oh wow! Fantastic to hear!

I was thinking of heading to Tamarindo first - too much of a trek from San Jose airport? I thought maybe relax before do some more active stuff. I am right at the beginning of my research really!

It is a bit of a trek from SJO yes, and I found it more built up and Americanised than some other towns.

I loved Manuel Antonio, not too far from San Jose and the beach within the National Park is divine (although the beach outside the park, not so much).

We had one night in SJ then headed straight down to Osa which was out of this world. Then we picked up a car and wound our way back up to SJ via st Theresa, Monteverdi, arenal etc. we had a couple of nights in tamarindo, expecting not to much like it but it was actually wonderful (this was 10 yrs ago)
