Anyone know Estepona?

We're on the verge of booking an apartment in Estepona town for a week at Easter. We've been to the Costa del Sol before, but to Nerja and Calahonda, so want to try a new area and like the look of Estepona as a base.
Any pros and cons of Estepona town? We'll have a car, but want to be able to walk to restaurants which apparently we can from this apartment. Anyone know whether the restaurants are any good there?

We've been there in April, lovely weather! We were staying just down the coast near Marbella. Estepona is lovely - lots of restaurants to choose from but obv more expensive nearer the sea front. Wide choice of restaurants and we haven't found a bad one yet!

we went last summer, there are some great restuarants there, tikitano's being one of them.. don;t know if i spelt it right, jaipur purple also good...in san pedro there are some authentic tapas bars, about a 7 minute drive from estepona....a fantastic fish restuarant too, cannot remember the name, began with a 'ch..'

it's not as nice as nerja or calahonda.

but Lucy5 lives there. maybe she can help more...

Thanks for the responses. Encouraging re restaurants! SenoraParsnip, in what way not as nice? It's 10 years since we were in Calahonda, had a great apartment, last minute, but didn't think much to the place, but no doubt it's changed since then. Love Nerja, but have been there twice and want to go somewhere different. Anywhere in Spain, or anywhere else, anyone would compare Estepona to in any way?

Hola! I am biased but I deffo think it is nicer than Calahonda and not as touristy as Nerja. Where are you thinking of staying? What sort of holiday do you like? What type of food do you like? I haven't got much time now but promise to pop on tomorrow and give you a bit of a rundown. Feel free to pm me.

Hi Lucy5, We decided to go ahead an book
an apartment we liked the look of - Puerta del Mar I think. We prefer to eat in the restaurants the locals would eat in (rather than touristy ones). We're easily pleased, we're only doing a week at Easter will have longer holiday somewhere else in summer. Plan to go to Gibraltar. Other than that, haven't really started to think about it. Have visited Marbella/Puerto Banus before & no real desire to revisit. Have been to Ronda before, it was lovely so might go again. Would welcome any other suggestions, but tons of time so no rush. This really is a chill out holiday so fingers crossed that the weather is good enough to have some pool/waterpark time as well as sightseeing.
