DH and I are beginning to wonder where we might go on holiday this year. Desperate to lift gloomy winter spirits by booking something exciting! Our DD is 3, and we are currently trying for number two, so I was wondering: What sorts of holidays can you enjoy with a 3 year old that might become impossible/difficult with a baby in tow? I'd like to feel I'm making the most of the opportunity to holiday without a baby!

what are you thinking money wise- expensive longhaul like Oz or Canada or somewhere in Europe?

Well... when I asked the question I was thinking 'money no object, adventure is all'. Then I thought about my overdraft, so now I'm thinking cheaper. Maybe Europe. Maybe the end of the garden.

lol - what about a european centre parks - so you and DH can still relax whilst dd can have fun but without too much stress.

Or a city break to Rome, Prague or Bremen - somewhere that's child friendly with lots to do.

Or a beach type holiday to Corsica/majorca/menorca?

all sound nice ideas. I suppose what I'm really wondering is - what will become harder to do with a baby along too? Or doesn't it make all that much difference, do you think?

Unless your DD is going to go into a club/creche type thing every day or take a nanny with you, I think that no holiday is relaxing once you've had kids!!! We find Center Parcs the most relaxing as we don't feel like our kids have to be constantly told to be quiet as they're so geared towards families.

Oh, well, maybe it isn't going to make all that much difference then. I'm not sure whether to be relieved or not!

Umm. I think that there are quite a few holidays you can go on now, which become more difficult once you've got a baby in tow. Once you've got more than one kid you have to start thinking more in terms of child-friendly places whereas at the moment you can take your pick a bit more ... just go for a big room and ask for them to put an extra bed in it.

We went to Maderia with our daughter when it was just the three of us, Italy, and Spain - and certainly to places that would be impossible now we are a family of five.

Also at the moment you've just got the one child to fly with (if you're thinking of flying) and the two of you to entertain her. Slightly longer flights are a possibility, still...
