Nice in August

Have never been to the south of France and would like to go this summer. We’ll spend some time by the beach but quite like walking around and exploring too. Does anyone have any top tips for a week long stay?

There's some good museums - art moderne The Cour Saleya with flower market, and old town. Stroll along the Promenade des Anglais. Colline du chateau.
Day trips to Villefranche Sur Mer and Antibes for the provencal market and Picasso museum. Juan Les Pins for the beach - rent sunbeds/book for lunch at Helios Plage, or at the Hotel Belle Rive (the house F Scott Fitzgerald stayed in whilst writing Tender is the Night) and imagine being one of the Bright Young Things.

Nice is lovely!

As well as the city itself having lots to explore, it is feasible to take a day trip to Monaco which is quite fascinating.

Personally I wouldn’t go in August. What you can do is improved if you hire a car. The Grand Cornishe is an amazing drive. You must visit the hillside villages such as Eze. There are many gems.

Monaco and Menton are easy on the train. The Matisse Chapel in Vence is great and the Chagall museum too. Nice has amazing restaurants. It’s just calmer in the early autumn! Everywhere.
