Rijeka in Croatia - anyone been?

Just booked a holiday in Rijeka for summer. It looks beautiful from the pictures though not a mainstream destination as I understand. Looking for somewhere nice to stay with 2 young children, can be in one of the nearby islands. Does anyone have any recommendations? We don't normally do resorts but quite fancy it this time! Any tips welcome.

We stayed in Baska on Krk Island 5 years ago. I really liked it. It's less green than other Croatian islands but still beautiful. We didn't see any other British tourists but it's popular with Eastern Europeans. Baska beach is absolutely beautiful but very crowded.

We stayed at Adorami appartments. One of the nicest appartments I've stayed in. Really modern, great pool and I loved the owners. We went when my twins were 6 and they loved it.

@izzy2076 thank you so much for the recommendations. We'd also been looking at krk island. Did you find that you needed a car to get around?

No we didn't get a car. Taxis were fairly reasonable and you can get to other beaches by water taxi.
