Nice area within an hour of Alicante please

We can fly into Alicante but we are looking for something smaller with a bit of character. A small hotel or villa with pool with local restaurants nearby would be perfect! Thanks.

Calpe is under an hour from Alicante, passed Benidorm, which it isn't anything like!

Try Santa Pola

Altea is lovely but a pebble beach. Fab ‘old town’ with lots of shopping. Villajoyosa has colourful beach front houses and lovely beaches. Good public transport links between these places. If you have kids, there are theme parks on the outskirts of Benidorm. There are a few nice inland towns too: Aigües, Novelda etc.

Further up the coast is nicer Jávea etc. I have a house South Alicante Alicante but wish I’d bought further North. Weather nicer in Alicante South at winter.

Oliva/Denia/Javea/Gandia

Depends what you want. All have blue flag beaches and are less touristy and reasonable.

Moraira

Gran Alacant, ten minutes from Alicante airport.

Dénia and Javea are nice.
