Cyprus, solo, late April?

I'm not very familiar with Cyprus, just one visit to Paphos area when my son was young, but I'm thinking of getting away for a couple of weeks when the Easter rush dies down.

I usually head to one of the Canary Islands but have seen some cheaper breaks for Cyprus so might go there for a change. Are they cheaper for a reason, ie the weather will be rubbish or most places are closed because the season hasn't started?

I'd appreciate location tips for solo travellers to Cyprus and any insight into the weather at the moment.

Depends which part of the island you stay at. We went to Paphos and Limassol in March and they were quite busy.
The eastern side (Protaras/Ayia Napa/Pernera which have the best beaches) doesn't really get going until the end of April.
April in Cyprus is a lovely time of the year with spring flowers in abundance and perhaps one of the best times to do a bit of travelling. Nothing is guaranteed weather wise but for sure it will be better than here.
Don’t use Paphos as a base. It’s a really popular destination for couples and honeymooners. The best place for solo travel is Ayia Napa but it pretty much shut down for the winter months and is best visited in summer.
In my experience, Cypriot men are very forward. Just use the same female commonsense as you would anywhere. Keep most cash and cards safely in the hotel or underneath your clothing, don't leave your bag on the back of cafe etc chairs, stay alert and aware, don't get drunk, watch your drinks in clubs and bars, don't take up offers of lifts from people you don't already know well, don't wander alone late at night in dimly-lit and deserted areas etc etc....you know the sort of thing. It's all just basic female commonsense.

Thank you Fivemoreminutes1, much appreciated.

My local airport flies to Paphos so I was thinking about heading north, maybe Polis or near Coral Bay if I can find something suitable.

I'm a boring old fart these days so most of my walking about would be during the day and in bars I only drink coffee or water. Just read that back and thought 'wtf, when did I get so bloody boring '?Grin
