Passport photo

I’m trying to renew passports for myself and two kids online. All of our photo codes have come up with ‘automated check- your image and the background are difficult to tell apart’ then it goes on to ask if I want to use them anyway. Not sure whether to, or just use an app or do I on my phone. Anyone else had this and used them anyway?
I spent £8 on each!

I had my passport photos taken at Max Spielman, they checked the photos on the computer first to see if they should be accepted. They also said if there were any issues with the photo once I uploaded it they would re-take for free.

Originally I was going to take my own photos on the app but couldn't get it quite right so thought it wasn't worth the risk.

Could you go back to where you had the photos taken or contact the booth company if it was one of those. My sister had issues with the booth passport photos and the company refunded her.

Where did you have them taken? Most places have a guarantee acceptance or retake policy.

MossyBottom · 10/04/2022 13:41

I just took my own. When you do the online passport and upload the picture it tells you whether it's acceptable or not. Just take a close up but do not crop, they will crop it.

I did ours at home, find a well lit area with minimal shadows. The online application tells you if the photo is likely to be accepted.

I had the same problem OP. The photo machine I had then taken in said they were fine. But when I uploaded it to the passport form, I got that message about the background and image being difficult to tell apart. It was ridiculous - very obvious what was background and what was me. So I ticked the Bix saying use it anyway, and in the box that comes up, said 'I believe the photo meets all criteria'.
But no idea yet whether they will still process it,as this was only last night!

Seconding, max spielman for a stress free process.

Mine did exactly the same OP, I just ticked the box to say use them anyway because you could absolutely see a different between the image and the background! Passport application went through without an issue, and got my new one through the post within about 3 weeks. This was a couple of months ago.

We took our photos in the kitchen with an iPhone! Worth a try if you need to take replacement ones..

@Hairbear2 I posted earlier in the thread and thought you might like an update - I received my new passport on Friday last week, hurrah. Photo was accepted fine, despite the same warning message as you.

Thank you. My sons passed, even after the message, my daughters didn’t but they texted/email me so I got an app, did a photo on my phone. That passed, hers arrived first! All in about 2 weeks.
