Hey everyone,

So I’m turning 40 in September and husband said he would take me away for a long weekend. I can pick anywhere I want to go. The grandparents are taking my little one so would like to go somewhere cultured with great food. Any recommendations?! I have Santorini in mind but would love to hear other suggestions.

Many thanks

I’ve recently enjoyed:
Seville
Alghero
Lisbon
Valencia
Verona

I’d like to try:
Malaga
Ljubljana
Naples (went many years ago, having seen My Brilliant Friend would love to go again!)
Milan

Taormina I highly recommend, Sicily is lovely and it's warm in spring and autumn as far south

Thanks everyone for all your help! I can see lots of recommendations for San Sebastián and Dubrovnik. I have been lucky enough to have been to both. I haven’t been to Seville or Reykjavik and I always wanted to go . Might go to Seville in sept and persuade my husband to go to Reykjavik for his 40th next year 😂

I went to Florence for my 40th and had a wonderful time. Compact centre with beautiful architecture, lovely gardens, museums, and the food! We stayed in a gorgeous boutique B&B 10 minutes walk from the centre.

Seville is beautiful, as is Grenada ( remind him to book Alhambra visits when he books hotel/flights) . Also look at Bilbao, small city, but lots to do and see, food is amazing.

If you choose Seville have a look at Hotel Alcoba del Rey, lovely hotel, Moroccan style decor, close to the cathedral.

Thanks viques for the tip.

@Kmj2018

Thanks viques for the tip.
You are welcome, if you look on their site look at the photo gallery not the rooms bit, for some weird reason they haven’t used the best ones!

Seville is lovely if that’s your current top choice.I’d also throw in Nafplio - mainland Greece, about an hour and a half from Athens. Beautiful mix of Greek and Venetian, good food lots of historical sites there and nearby.

Or, Lecce in Puglia Italy. Food, all the food!
