Baltics

I had my heart set on going to the Baltics this summer. Was thinking a stop in Lithuania, then to somewhere on the coast, maybe Nida or around there so I could take a day trip to Kaliningrad.
Obviously there are now tensions in this area. There seems to be no official advice against going; but I am a bit nervous.

Would you go to this part of the world at the moment? Or, more precisely, book and commit to a trip there now not knowing how things will look in late summer?

When you said baltics I was thinking more Finland/Sweden. I’d be happy going there. They have really lovely summers (often earlier than ours)

I don’t know much about Baltic counties that are more main land Europe.

I do like Sweden, and from a safety point of view would happily go there. But I've been a couple of times and want a change and to see the actual Baltic countries. It's just the proximity to Russia and Ukraine that makes me nervous.

I’m planning a trip to Vilnius, Tallin and Riga in the next few few weeks. Am avoiding Poland and other countries taking the most refugees as I don’t want to be an additional burden on them.

My family aren’t too impressed but I would like to go.

Plus maybe Helsinki

That's reassuring to hear. Yes, I'd love to go to Poland another time, but am not sure at the mo because of all the pressures they must be under with refugees.

Apart from Kaliningrad, I’d have no worries about travelling to this area based on the current status.

While you can never say never, it doesn’t seem like Russia is in a position to invade another country at this time or in the foreseeable future, which is presumably what you’re concerned about.

Check FCO, US State Department and major equivalents’ advice thoroughly before you book and again before you go, but it should be fine.

Yes, I wasn't very clear but I'm basically worried about Russian attacks/invasion. The Foreign Office and US State Department don't advise against travel to the area.

Pity about Kaliningrad.
