Canada

I am going to Canada in 3 weeks.

It is good that they do not insist on the Covid test for entry but they do require the ArriveCan form to be filled in.

I had a look and created an account and as far as I can see, you have to put in passport details and the proof of vacination information.

Anything else? You do this 72 hours before going

Has anyone else done this

Not yet! But we are going in June.

Read the British Gov travel advice. We think you have to give an address for quarantine should you need it. Also find a tester at the airport if you need that too. I’m dreading a random test and we have no idea what to do about a quarantine address! We are joining a small boat in Prince Rupert then going to Alaska. More form filling I think.

Hey - I'm from Prince Rupert! Ask me anything in advance.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 07/04/2022 22:58

I believe you also have to have a quarantine plan ready. As far as I can tell this just has to be a statement about where you would stay for the quarantine period if you were to test positive at your arrival airport. I do need to understand it better - we're going in 8 weeks.

Our problem is it scuppers the whole holiday if we have to quarantine. I’m not staying in Canada for long!

@mdinbc
We are going to Alaska with Bluewater Adventures and we are starting and finishing in Prince Rupert. We did want to get the boat to Vancouver Island but struggled to get accommodation there so we are going home after Prince Rupert. Any restaurant tips would be appreciated.

Make sure you complete the ETA checks if not Canadian too.

Pre-travel Covid tests are required if 5+ and not fully vaccinated now. (This is a change from last week).

So much paperwork in advance but we had an easy time clearing customs once we were here.

I have done two trips with BluewaterHaida Gwaii and Khutzemateen. You will have a wonderful time. Weather in June can be interestingbring layers and really good rain gear!

Yes us too. We're travelling for 3 days then have a week in one place. I don't know how long the results take (instant? 24 hours?) so our quarantine plan would be different depending on where we were when we found out we had to quarantine. Possibly our plan needs to say this...

We'll definitely LFT before we get on the plane (pretty much whole holiday refundable or able to be deferred) but seriously wondering whether a rapid PCR the day before would be a worthwhile "insurance".

Still hoping they may drop the random testing by the time we go though. Looks like Ontario is planning to declare Covid pretty much over by the end of this month.

@vancanuck
We have already been to the Great Bear Rainforest with Bluewater so we know what to expect. Although I think Alaska has changeable weather. We are partly there in July so hoping for the best!

We are fully vaccinated but are testing before we go - but it’s worrying! We did wonder if anyone who didn’t have a quarantine plan would open themselves up to the “random” test! When you are not staying in Canada for long it’s very difficult to know what to put down.

Yes but as the video shows you can get taken to a place provided to quarantine

Ah. I need to investigate further. I’d be devastated if we had to though. Whole holiday ruined!

mdinbc · 08/04/2022 17:44

TizerorFizz, restaurants in Prince Rupert

Crest Hotel - they have a pub and full service restaurant, both good.
Breakers Pub,- overlooking the marina where you will meet your cruise. Good pub food
Pavillion - also overlooking the harbour, they have nice curries and other western selections.

I believe the random testing would be at your point of entry into Canada, so if you are flying from london to Vancouver, and then a domestic flight to Pr. Rupert, you would go through customs at Vancouver. But I would check with a travel agent beforehand.

I looked up Bluewater Adventures and they look like great trips! You will see amazing coastline.

@mdinbc
Thanks so much for the info. Looking forward to it. Yes. Random testing would be at Vancouver. Just want it not to be us!
