Mainland Greece! Ideas please of lovely places.

Never been to mainland Greece! I know everyone heads to the islands but any recommendations for the mainland, beach and rustic if possible. Any ideas would be fabulous.

Not too far from Athens is possible or easy to get to my bus/train or taxi!

Sounion has a lovely temple and great sea views and can be reached by bus from Athens.

We had the best holiday ever on Halkidiki. Thessaloniki is stunning and you can see so many beautiful places. I’d love to go back there!

The Peloponese is lovely and unspoilt, halkidiki is lovely too.

Parga , love love love it there. Beautiful town and loads of little coves and beaches but they are pebbly beaches.

Navarino Bay, they love the British there because of a maritime battle - bit vague sorry!

Parga or Sivota. Both fly to Preveza (an hour from Parga.

Peloponnese- Nafplio is stunning and there are beach resorts nearby but there are a lot of fabulous places in the southern Peloponnese too.

Lefkada is stunning. Technically an island but you can drive

The Pelion peninsula is beautiful but would need a couple of changes to get to on public transport from Athens.

Retrainretrain, there are direct flights to Volos in the summer from the UK or just change in Athens, which is super easy.

Oh, and I would highly recommend Afissos in the Pelion to the OP.

My Dad is Greek and I came to say Halkidiki. It's where the Greeks holiday in Greece! Thessaloniki is fab, really beautiful and lots of great history.

The Peloponnese. We stayed in Nafplio, very beautiful and unspoilt. Was a bus ride from Athens, I think.
