Child passport renewal help !

I need to review both my children passport. Planning on get photos taken tomorrow and applying asap
We fly on 30th May

Do you think it’s enough time or should I go for 2 week fast track ?( soo expensive though !)

I didn't see an option to fast track

Does anyone know if I can still do this?

We travel This Sunday, I just got my child’s passport back today and I submitted on 28th Feb via check and send at the post office. I only got acknowledgment of receipt of the documents on the 8th March and I shit myself at that point. So then followed the mother of all odysseys. Having been told so many different things by their call centre I decided to follow the advice of one call handler and booked an urgent fast track appointment at Newport raking with me a letter requesting withdrawal of my current application. Woman there said I couldn’t do it as my child’s passport was in Durham. So I booked another appointment at Durham and travelled by train(13 hours round trip ) for a fast track appointment. They brought my child’s original passport down to the desk and I was able to complete it. Mission.

I’ve just had my child’s passport back in two weeks, that includes the time to send the old passport to them. I sent my passport off a week later and still haven’t had confirmation it’s been received (although paid for signed for delivery so I know they have it).

There’s a lot of posts on here and on facebook about delays. Guess the whole nobody really travelling for the last two years and the change to the validity rules have increased the number of renewals. Even my fast track is still only showing checking documents after 10 days, due for collection this week.

We're going at a v similar time to you and I have done the normal online application

The website says typical processing times are 5 weeks.

Dds passport arrived today. 😁 now to book fast track at the airport 😂😂

Argh. I'm totally having a throwing-my-toys-out-the-pram moment of 'it's not fair'! @Nutrigrainygoodness ours went to 'documents received' on the same date as yours, but ABSOLUTELY NOTHING since then and we're supposed to be flying first thing Friday morning.

Same here @Flockameanie . We are all set for our first family holiday on Saturday except my daughter's passport hasn't arrived! All they can say is 'we'll add a note with your travel date'. Has caused a lot of tension and upset at home. I applied 16th Feb. Docs were not acknowledged until 5th March. No change since 'application being processed' on 10th March.

Some people seem to be getting them back so fast it's not fair!

Oh no @Mistressofnone, sorry to hear you’re in the same boat. It sucks doesn’t it! I mean, first world problems and all that, but we’ve been really hanging on to the thought of this holiday over the past few months…

it absoultely does suck especially given the amount of money we pay and for kids you have to do it every 5 years.
our sons' is fortunately sorted but it does seem to be a small number that get stuck in the system inexplicably. Hope yours sorts itself out very soon.

I was meant to fast track but thought they would give me the option after paying for renewal (slaps forehead) I thought the fast track service was related to them posting it out, I keep kicking myself for sending DS passport off as I know there's no way of getting it back before the flight. I too was told to withdraw application and book fast track service! But I didn't trust I would receive it back in time.

My timeline:

I applied online renewal for DS on the 30th March, sent old passport special delivery 31st March. He's flying out May 5th.

I will post my outcome as soon as I receive his passport!
