Recommendations for holiday with elderly Mum

Mum is 81 and hasn't been on holiday for the last few years.
I need somewhere warm and sunny. FLAT walk to a few restaurants, no more than 3/4 hours flight from the UK ( preferably Gatwick.) Thinking last week of September. Anyone got any thoughts? Price not really an issue.

Amsterdam - very flat and lots of beautiful parks and museums/galleries and restaurants.

Oh yes, true, thanks for the suggestion, it's more of what she would call a holiday sun, sea, hotel kinda place I was after.

Paphos in Cyprus. Flat, sunny and warm. Easy safe bus to the archaeological sites. Lots of nice hotels.

underneaththeash · 31/03/2022 17:36

Oh and they're very good with old people and kids too.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 31/03/2022 17:38

O yes, haven't been there in 30 years!,

River cruise?
Very geared up to elderly passengers.

Benidorm. An elderly friend of mine (in his 90s) visited there with his wife just before the pandemic to recover from a leg amputation. He said it was great for getting around, very flat and had a variety of places you could hire mobility scooters. Lots of hotels and restaurants and nice beaches. I was surprised he went there because I'd always thought of it as a heavy drinking/partying resort. He was very well traveled in his youth and he's spent a lot of money on holidays over the years but he said it was one of the best holidays for relaxation he's ever been on.

2 and a half hours flight time from Gatwick.

I'm very lucky in that I've been going on holiday for 20 years with the same company. I said I needed an apartment on one level few, if any steps to get up, near the harbour.

I said I'd leave the dates to them but I wanted four weeks, preferably in May/ june.

They fixed me up with just such a place. The company is Nissia, they do sun sea
Holidays on three very small docdenese islands.

The owners are just brilliant (Meni and Daffy) the island reps (Steve on my island of choice) and the taxi driver employ in
Rhodes too.

I'm ambivalent about naming them because I don't want it to become too popular, as the quiet rural greece is a big part of its attraction, but it sounds like it might be up your and your Mums street.
Nissia has a particular offering, rural, relatively unspoilt by mass tourism and relys and gets, repeat. bookings. It's either your thing, or not!

Benalmadena in Costa del Sol is really good for this- flat promenade and plenty of benches for stopping for a rest. Generally very sunny too and a short transfer from the airport.

Playa Blanca in Lanzarote.

A hotel right on the pedestrian promenade that runs from the Marina to the old port. The Princess Yaiza. There are great restaurants along the stretch towards the port.

Small beaches all along the seafront.

A lovely range of places to see and visit across the island.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 01/04/2022 22:34

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll get googling!

I agree, a cruise is ideal. Facilities and food are usually excellent. If you choose a uk port to embark from the check in is so easy My elderly parents found airports stressful. If you choose Saga they will even pick you up from home.

They have entertainment, shops on board and you can choose to dine with others if the want company some evenings. You get to leave the ship to visit destination resorts and gave safety in numbers as not wandering around alone.

BestIsWest · 02/04/2022 17:24

I was just coming on to say that my parents loved Benalmadena - and cruises.

Saiorse81 · 02/04/2022 17:27

Lake Como - preferably based in Como. My Mum loved it. Beautiful flat walks around the lake and multiple ferries if she gets tired.

Seville for sun if you aren’t worried about beach.

Algarve, in particular Tavira.

Nerja, Palma or a cruise
