EASYJET - cheapest way to book unborn infant

6 replies

1HappyTraveller · 29/03/2022 23:27

We were about to book a flight with Easyjet but baby isn't born yet and the process isn't as straightforward as we had with another airline. The Easyjet website says you can add an infant at a later date through 'manage my booking' but does not clearly state anywhere how much this will cost. Has anyone done this recently, say in the past 6 months or so and have any idea?

I am a bit reluctant to book an infant before they have arrived and then change at a later date. Booking an infant at the initial booking stage is £25 each/way for them to sit on your lap and then a further £50 ea/way to name change. So it's looking at £150 to take an infant on an Easyjet flight if I do it that way (talk about daylight robbery!!!)

We don't know what we're having and as baby is not guaranteed to arrive on EDD we would need to consider changing sex and DOB too.

We need to book ASAP as we've just realised that our travel voucher is due to expire. Though at the moment I am considering just losing the money given the cost and hassle of booking a seat for an unborn infant!

I know I'll end up calling customer services anyways but just trying to get an idea before I end up spending the majority of my day on hold tomorrow...

Thanks in advance 1Un HappyTraveller

I added an infant earlier on this year and it cost me £50. When originally booking I didn’t know names, dob etc so left her off.

Just realised I haven’t booked extra luggage so I’m sure will add up!

@Peoniesandcats

Thank you!

So you didn’t book in advance, but instead did it through manage my booking and it was £50 total or £50 each way?

Pre-covid I remember the extra luggage wasn’t too bad provided that you don’t leave it until you arrive at the airport. Alternatively, and depending how much you need, you could take it through security then pop it in a duty-free shopping bag. You’re allowed one per person so if it’s just a few extra clothes for a short trip that may suffice instead of taking extra luggage in the hold…

It was £25 each way, they’ve got this online now which has the prices: www.easyjet.com/en/terms-and-conditions/fees

I couldn’t do it online, had to phone them up but it was pretty quick.

That’s a good idea about using a duty free bag. I heard about people ordering baby things online via boots and picking up airside too.

I order more than just baby stuff - great for all toiletries greater than 100mls if you only have hand luggage. You get the online prices on everything from shower gel to sun cream but just collect after security.

I saw that page in the link. The bit at the top states “The following are all included in the price you see when searching for flights ” that’s why I wasn’t sure because I’m essentially looking at changing the booking so I was err-ing on the side of caution in that the actual costs might be different as I’d essentially be changing a booking.

I double checked my confirmation emails just now and they didn’t charge me an admin fee. I would have argued that I would have done this myself online if there was functionality on the website! Also agree that it’s not clear at all.

Don’t lose your vouchers! Book something and then add an infant afterwards.

@Peoniesandcats

I realised today that I got the date wrong for the voucher expiry. Baby will have arrived by then, so after all that it might be okay for me to just book once it arrives facepalm but thank you all the same. Hopefully someone else might find this thread useful.
