Due to fly from Manchester airport on Thursday Mornjng with my LO and I’m so nervous about the queue times. 5 hours to get through and people missing flights! Anybody had any experience in the last couple of days?

We're coming to the end of a week long holiday in Malta flying through Manchester and I'm absolutely dreading returning.

Flying out was nothing short of a nightmare. 3 hours stood waiting in security and when we finally got near the front the staff just lost control and people started pushing forward and throwing their bags into grey boxes and trying to throw them over heads to get them on the belt.

I had a full blown panic attack & I've never had one of those in my life. I couldn't breathe and my husband ended up having to shout at people to let us through because I was in such a state!

I'll never set foot in Manchester airport again that's for sure!!

@NdefH81 My sister was delayed for 10 hours at Gatwick on Saturday!

My experience through Manchester is that it really depends what time you're travelling - took about an hour to get through security on Sunday.

Difficulty is that most (as far as I could see) planes were delayed from Manchester - so when we were due to arrive fairly late anyway 9.45pm, in Italy, it meant that we arrived after 11pm - car rental place was closed / no food available at the hotel etc etc.

Coming back from Italy to Manchester (due to be on a plane that had come in from Manchester), that was also delayed by 2hrs too because it was late setting off from Manchester.

So its not just the time you need to get through security at Manchester, its the knock on effect of delays etc.

Flew into Manchester yesterday lunchtime. My case was on the carousel before I got to it.. quickest i have ever been through baggage reclaim. I know it isn't the same for everyone but I had no delays at Manchester for the outward or return flight.. hope this gives a ray of hope to some of you with flights in the next few weeks.

That's good news. I really can't face the queues so many are reporting so have booked fast track going out and taking cabin luggage only

LakeFlyPie · 09/04/2022 09:46

In laws went through T2 this morning and said it was ok, through check in and security in 2 hours. Bad news is staff said it'll much worse tomorrow which is when we're travelling Confused

Essexexile · 09/04/2022 16:19

Wondered if anyone can help? We’ve bought fast track passes for 13/4 6am flight from T1, I’m now reading that the service has been suspended and when trying to do a dummy booking, fast track isn’t available to buy. Would anyone know if passes have already been bought they can use the service or if the suspension means everyone regardless and we’ll get a refund? I’ve looked at the Manchester airport website and you can only contact them Mon-Fri, they only monitor their Twitter account Mon-Fri and queries can take up to 30 days to get a response. Would appreciate any help-

DH flew out from terminal 2 a few days ago. He said it wasn't as bad as he thought. He got their for 1 and was through for 3 so had 4 hours waiting around. Not sure on coming home yet as he isn't due back for a while sorry x

Africa2go · 09/04/2022 17:41

@isitbedyet I don't think Terminal 2 is the problem, it's Terminal 2.

@Essexexile I don't know whether it was a one off but we were stood with someone (on Sunday 3rd) in the "normal" queue (T1) who said he'd wasted money on a Fast Track. Didn't get chance to discuss it any further so can't help as to why it was wasted.

Africa2go · 09/04/2022 17:41

Sorry Terminal 1 is the issue!!

Campervan69 · 09/04/2022 18:01

Terminal 1 is perfect today. We are here right now. Took us about 5 minutes to get through. All peaceful and orderly.

Campervan69 · 09/04/2022 18:02

Oh, we did do fast track through ryanair and they sent us down a different way but there was very little queueing either way.

Essexexile · 09/04/2022 21:16

Thanks for the responses, I did get a reply on Twitter from someone saying any passes already bought will be honoured and that no new bookings can be made until May.
I think we’ll just get there early, like 3am 😳
(I’m actually dreading this and assuming we test negative on our PCR’s, which could be a whole other story 😂

LakeFlyPie · 10/04/2022 05:30

Through T2 security in under an hour, just a 3 hour wait before heading to the gate! Such a relief 😮‍💨

legosnowqueen · 10/04/2022 17:11

Through T1 Security in 10 mins at around 10.30 this morning...

Badbadbunny · 10/04/2022 17:33

Surely putting some hold luggage through will mean there's less chance of the flight taking off without you if you're held up in security as they'll have to search the hold and offload your luggage, which takes a while, so they're more likely to leave the gate open for a little longer rather than just close the doors and go if the only missing passengers are carry on luggage only.
Isseywith3witchycats · 10/04/2022 17:50

we go from T2 on may 5th and managed to buy fast pass easily yesterday

SantaMonicaPier · 11/04/2022 08:54

I honestly can't face waiting for bag drop
to open then a potential 90 min queue to drop a case off just in case that helps to hold the plane. With carry on luggage only I can check in online and arrive as early as I want for security so that feels like a less risky option.

LMT88 · 12/04/2022 21:25

I’m sure they will honour them. However you can speak to customer services via the chat line between 9 and 5. Visit www.manchesterairport.co.uk/ Click on the chatbot at the bottom right then select ‘I want to speak to an agent ‘ then select ‘none of the above’. I did this at exactly 9am and was second in the queue. They were very helpful.

Just to update, we arrived at check in at 2.30, it was a bit chaotic but it helped that we had speedy boarding and we could use the fast track so we were sitting having breakfast just after 3.30.

SantaMonicaPier · 13/04/2022 06:31

Brilliant! Pleased you got through OK, have a good break

Sisisimone · 13/04/2022 06:36

Getting through Manchester last week was probably the quickest I've got through security ever. An absolute breeze. Getting home however from Italy has been a bit if a nightmare. Got an email from Easyjet to say our flight was cancelled. The next flight a few days later was full. We're having to travel 100 mikes to another airport to get a flight back 3 days later than we had booked. We're lucky in that we have the money to book new hotels, pay for travel, food etc and that it's fallen over the weekend but it was stressful sorting it and no help whatsoever from the airline, just cancelled and that's it. We're making the most of an extra few days holiday and just hoping the next flight back isn't cancelled as well.

Africa2go · 13/04/2022 09:13

@Sisisimone thats terrible, aren't they obliged to find you an alternative flight if you're already abroad? Were other non Easyjet flights available? I'd have been furious! Good on you for being fairly relaxed.

Sisisimone · 13/04/2022 09:19

They are supposed to find you an alternative flight but they didn't. Apparently Easyjet say they can't rebook you on another flight, BA do. We had no help whatsoever. The only non easy jet flights back to Manchester had changes and would have taken 8hrs plus which is why we're travelling to a new destination. Weather is lovely so just enjoying the extra few days and hoping next flight not cancelled!
