UK airports--which airport is best right now?

We live overseas and are hoping to come into the UK for a trip this summer. Manchester airport is closer for us, but Heathrow is also possible.

I've heard that Manchester airport is a real nightmare at the moment, and people are being held in queues for hours. Does anyone have any comments about Manchester vs Heathrow?

If Manchester is MUCH worse than Heathrow, we will fly into Heathrow even though it is a longer journey afterwards.

If we fly into Manchester, we will be flying in via Finland; if it's Heathrow, it could be from anywhere, but the Middle East seems like a likely transit point.

My husband and children are coming in on non-British passports, in case that makes a difference.

Actually, just looked at the reviews for Heathrow and they’re not much better at all!

I flew into Heathrow a couple of days ago and there were no queues. There were no queues flying out either.

I've seen countless reports about the state of Manchester airport recently, I would avoid it at all costs if you can!

During my recent flights into Heathrow I didn’t see any massive queues. I was using e-Gates but the non-EU/UK, family lanes looked okay. This was T5, midweek and during term time though, so maybe not an accurate representation if you’re flying in on the first weekend of August IYSWIM.

I was through passport control within minutes, but luggage didn’t appear for over an hour. And we were short hauls, parked up right next to the belts. The problem at Heathrow right now is luggage, you can be left waiting for hours.

Is Gatwick an option for you? Heathrow can never cope with summer, even though it is every year.
