Recommendations in/around Riviera Maya?

We're hoping to go on a family holiday to Mexico in July, somewhere around Tulum/Akumal kind of area. Has anyone been who can recommend a hotel or resort?

Hi, we just got back from Mexico a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if it’s the kind of thing you’re looking for but we stayed at Barcelo Maya Beach Resort near Puerto Aventuras and thought it was great for families - my kids are 6 and 7 and they loved it. It is a huge resort with 5 hotels (one is adult only) and you can use the facilities at all of them so loads to do. Might not be your kind of thing if you don’t like big resort type hotels but it was a very easy beach-type holiday.

Yes!! What a fabulous holiday we had. We stayed at Bahia Principe Akumal, which is one of 4-5 hotels all connected with buggies running between them, you can use all the facilities inc restaurants of all.
Best of all were the trips out we did -
- Swimming w turtles in Akumal
- Sian Kaan biosphere - saw turtles dolphins and crocodiles in the wild OMG the colour of the sea!! Snorkelled with experts was INCREDIBLE
- swimming with whale sharks off Cancun - once in a lifetime experience unforgettable!!
We steered clear of the Xcaret etc type places where creatures aren't in the wild as don't agree with that
The wildlife at the hotel was amazing! Coatis and iguanas especially. We named them all

@SFisnotsimple wow that sounds EXACTLy the kind of thing I'm hoping for! Lots of wildlife and once in a lifetime experiences!
Who did you travel with? We are heavily leaning towards tui because they fly from bristol which is much closer to us than having to get to london
SFisnotsimple · 19/03/2022 20:29
Yes we used TUI - this was 2019. Although the hotel was good, the very best thing was the trips I mentioned. They are worth every single penny and are what we will all remember all our lives!

Oh that's really encouraging, thank you. It's such a lot of money and we'd be going at an odd time of year, I'm stressed about booking it and finding travelling so far with kids who just aren't used to it would be a nightmare but it sounds amazing

We stayed here in 2019 but it was a sensatori then.

Fabulous rooms, food, beach, pools etc
As someone law mentioned the biosphere is a must, turtles, dolphins and crocodiles all in one day, amazing trip
We also did xel ha but not the dolphins and had a fabulous day snorkelling, zip lining and jumping off cliffs into the lazy river
