We went to Lanzarote last May, staying in Sands Beach Villas resort, about 20 mins from Arrecife airport. Was only about 50% full so v quiet and has a man made beach set back from the sea front so much safer for dcs. We had a 2 bed plaza villa which was right by the pool. Food ok in restaurants, supermarket on site. Would go back. HTH

We have been to Gran Canaria and Tenerife. We would never go back to Gran Canaria - we both hated the resorts! Tenerife was nice, we stayed in a place just outside Las Americas called Los Cristianos - it was much more Spanish than other tourist areas and we really liked it.

We went to Playa Blanca in Lanzarote and it was great. Slightly touristy in the town but the Marina was much more civilised with loads of great restaurants etc.

Depending on budget the Princess Yaiza is the best hotel in the best location but it's jolly pricey. The Rubicon is a good hotel but it's not on a beach, you'd have to walk a bit.

Ooh thats interesting Dee, we are looking to go to Playa Blanca in April with our ds who will be 11 months then. We have looked at both of the hotels that you mentioned, the Princess comes out at about £700 more, for b&b than the Rubicon is for AI. We want somewhere which is nice, but want to feel comfortable with ds tearing around the place if that makes sense? Is it in a nice location? Is it as widndy as everyone says?

Been to Lanzarote, lots of really interesting things to do. You must go to see Ceasar Manrique's house it's cool. But I found it a bit limited for 2 weeks.
Try www.thomsonauctions.co.uk for some real bargains out to the Canaries ATM.

We are only planning on going for a week, have heard lots of reccomendations for CM's palace.

the Princess Yaiza is much more 'up market' but is also totally geared to families. It's located on a fabulous beach and from there you could walk everywhere. The Rubicon is on the West side of Playa Blanca, the marina is on the East side.

Given the choice I'd shop around for the best price and go to the Princess Yaiza. You may get a better deal by splitting the holiday into hotel only then flights only.

really enjoyed Lanzarote and Playa Blanca. Back off to Fuerteventura in a couple of weeks - going to Corralejo, took a moment to get used to it as it's a 'newer build', but the beaches a little way out of town in a rental car are unbelievable. The little beaches in Corralejo are good for families.

DEE - Do you know what the Natura Palace is like?

nappyaddict · 18/01/2008 08:14

lanzarote and fuerteventura are touristy but quieter than tenerife and gran canaria. la palma, la gomera, el hierro and la graciosa aren't touristy at all and are very quiet.

Nyx · 18/01/2008 08:31

I've been to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and I would recommend Fuerteventura; I liked them both but Fuerteventura was less touristy and I just loved the beaches etc. Lucky you - wish I was going back!

We've just spent a week in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote and it was wonderful! Stayed in a villa with a heated pool, and the local beach is wonderful. Our 18month LO loved it! It is a little touristy in areas (but the National Park (of volanoes) is definitely worth a trip!) and we did experience "the wind" a few days but it was still hot - 21-23 degrees. HTH

wherever you decide to go I would recommend 'freedom holidays' website. We are going to Tenerife to the Costa Adeje in March-and got a great deal with Freedom Holidays
www.freedomdirect.co.uk

Alot of the hotels mentioned here I saw cheapest on this website. I haven't been on the holiday yet so cant report back-but have a look!

DEE7479551 · 14/02/2008 23:45

Sorry, don't know the Natura palace but you could have a look on trip advisor or holidays uncovered for visitor reviews.

We love Lanzarote - and we love the Hotel Gran Salinas when we can afford it.....

Granny22 · 14/02/2008 23:58

Lanzarote is the best of the Canaries imo. So clean and weather neither too hot or cold all year round. Playa Blanca is our favourite but defo hire a car and explore, good roads and so much to see. Perhaps have day trip on boat to Fuerteventura.

Not so keen on Gran Canaria but still an OK place.

Nyx · 15/02/2008 09:23

DH and I went to Fuerteventura for our honeymoon, and I had been to Lanzarote before that. We love Fuerteventura! We stayed in self catering apartments and I think having a little one around wouldn't be a problem at all. And the beaches! Wish I was going back there too.
