Rockies road trip - advice please

I’ve been to the Rockies many years ago and hoping to go back with the kids next summer. We are thinking of doing a round trip by car and just wondering whether it’s better to start in Calgary or Vancouver? I prefer Vancouver as a city but we won’t be staying in either place for long so it doesn’t really matter. Any experts?

Also, we have considered a motor home rather than car and hotels but not sure if it would be stressful?! Also I imagine you’d don’t sleep as well as in a proper room. Anyone done it?

Hi I am also considering this trip. Either this or pacific coast highway, can’t make my mind up!!

Before you hire a motorhome I'd try one in the UK for a weekend first. It's a lot of packing and unpacking, you can't just drive off for the day with your breakfast pots still on the table, or one person go to the supermarket easily etc. Also.....bears!!

Driving a motorhome on curvy mountain roads, especially on windy days, is not like driving a car. It also makes going into town complicated. There are advantages, but even in the wide open spaces, they are still huge and hard to deal with at times.

I personally prefer doing hotels, but planning your packing so that you can avoid taking in all your luggage at each stop. A bit risky with theft, so you do need to bring in anything irreplaceable or valuable, but you don’t really need all the clothing you brought for everyone each night and definitely not the dirty laundry.

I completely agree with both your points on the negative sides of motorhomes. I think it would end up with DH and I arguing the whole time - we don’t cope well with that kind of stress!
