Holidays
Tenerife in Oct half term. South side or North side?
bobthebuilderofstars · 15/03/2022 17:05
Flying into the South, and will get an air b and b. But we like eating out at local restaurants, pools, quiet places. Not big resorts and shared pools.
In Oct the south side will have better weather, but the North side looks much nicer.
Gahhhh! I want the sun, but..... not in a bland tourist trap.
Go Sunny South or Interesting North?
travellingturtle · 15/03/2022 17:15
North. Hands down. The weather in the north is fine in October –winter doesn't properly hit until Jan / Feb. And the south is only a half hour drive anyway –so if the weather in the north really isn't cutting it during your trip you can nip down for a day's sunbathing but avoid the nonsense of ToyTown at night.
Totally biased because I live in the north
Libertynan · 15/03/2022 21:35
North for me too.
I don’t think the weather is always that different.
Twilightstarbright · 17/03/2022 18:54
@travellingturtle what’s the weather like at the moment?
Saltysaltycaramelanything · 17/03/2022 19:00
We go to the South for the weather as I read some MN reviews about the weather in the North which put me off. We visit Santiago, it's not a big rowdy area and has some nice restaurants.
I suggest stay in the South and hire a car to visit the North
CraftyGin · 17/03/2022 19:03
South side, but hire a car and take a trip up to the north side for the day.
We have done the opposite, and felt very hard done by in the cold north.
vamptramp · 17/03/2022 19:22
Is it really much cooler in the north?! We've only ever stayed in the north and it's been 26-30 every time!

It's a bit mad right now to be honest - this is about as 'winter' as it gets over here. And to be honest January through to Easter is more or less always our winter – but everyone is saying it's a very odd March this year.
We've had some wild rainstorms, high winds, I'm looking out of the window at a thick calima (Saharan sand in the air) and there's snow on Teide.
I'm thrilled - it's a lovely treat to have a few weeks of cosy slippers and hot tea and blankets - but I appreciate it's not what most tourists want when they're trying to get away from the cold in the UK!

oh man, now I am more undecided !
@travellingturtle which village would you recommend on the north side? I am looking a place at Icod del los Vinos
or Guia de Isdora.
I love sun, the rest of the family not so bothered.

Going to jump on this thread if anyone still posting.
Anyone stayed near Los Abrigos? El Maleta? Are the planes too annoying?
Or Callao Salvaje?
Libertynan · 25/03/2022 07:48
@sunisblinding
It was the original holiday resort I believe before the south was 'built'.
I really like PDLC -have stayed in hotels and hired villas there. It's a great base to explore more of the island either by public bus or self drive.
floofycroissant · 25/03/2022 07:54
Similar tastes as you, we went to the south side in late September and didn't really enjoy it.
Ended up reaching our limit by the last night, upped and left and booked a last minute hotel at the top of mount Tiede as a treat. It was so special.
Last day was spent mooching around Santa Cruz and it was lovely, definitely felt like we'd chosen wrong.
Tbf we did t use the car as much as we could, I think more day trips from the south would also have helped
Libertynan · 25/03/2022 08:00
Hotel on Mount Teide sounds fabulous!
I have been to Tenerife about 10 times over the years - there are so many small towns to visit. I can't say I'm ever bored when I go there for a couple of weeks.
KohlaParasaurus · 25/03/2022 13:22
Garachico and Buenavista del Norte are lovely and relatively quiet. I didn't like Puerto de la Cruz much.
Magnoliasblur · 05/04/2022 16:46
Booked Callao Salvaje! An apartment.
Looks like a decent mix of walkable cafes and bars, small beach plus the sun.
We only have a week so not likely to get too bored.
Any recommendations?
