Where would you go in April?

Which country/resort/area if you want:

  1. Pretty much guaranteed sunshine (doesn't have to be baking hot, just pleasantly warm will do)
  2. Beach bars
  3. Good food/restaurants
  4. Some nice country/hill walks
  5. Some culture/history
  6. Not long haul from the UK

I'm thinking canaries somewhere because of the weather, but we want to do a bit of hiking, and don't like really over developed places. However, we would like a few bars and restaurants to choose from. We love the Greek islands but it won't be warm enough in mid April.
Any ideas?

We’ve gone for canaries with a hotel on the beach. It was the only place warm enough without restrictions in place. We booked last month so rules may differ now.

Yes I think it will be the canaries but I'm looking for recommendations for a particular island/resort where it isn't too high rise and has some good hiking trails. Only ever visited Tenerife to get on a cruise so I'm not that familiar.

I think Madeira might suit. It's a 4.5 hour flight from the UK. There is a lot of walking to do alongside the irrigation channels called levadas. It'll be around 20 degrees, Funchal is a pretty, buzzy little city with lots of bars and restaurants. The island is very beautiful, rugged and so very green. Being in the Atlantic, sea swimming wouldn't be a thing though.

We’ve chosen Fuerteventura, south of the island. Hoping to walk, sit on out balcony with a cocktail and read a book and maybe try surfing and play tennis.
