Holiday to Hawaii with kids
RosieLeaLovesTea · 05/03/2022 21:15
Hi all
It’s DHs 40th birthday this year. We are thinking of going to Hawaii with our 2 kids: 8 and 6. Has anyone done this trip? Recommendations on places to stay and things to see?
Thanks!

@TizerorFizz. Thanks for all the info and suggestions. How much did the holiday to Costa Rica cost roughly? I like the idea of holidaying on a yacht and sailing to small coves. I did that once in Turkey pre kids. It was so relaxing.

@TizerorFizz. Sorry forgot to ask what does BVI stand for?

OP you asked for recommendations too, I would always book a condo over a hotel room, and most will come with beach towels and equipment such as chairs, umbrellas and a cooler.
On Maui I’d pick the Lahaina-Kaanapali beach area. Honua Kai Resort, is a particular favourite
On Big Island anywhere in the Waikoloa Beach resort area or the Mauna Lani area but not the hotels which are large soulless places with ridiculous charges.
It’s a long time since I have been to Kauai so I won’t give recommendations and if you are going to Oahu I usually pick something on the beach and only stay a night or 2
Eating out and food in general is expensive as is everything else.
On Big Island it is often recommended to have a few nights near the Volcano but with DC at 6&8 you may feel this is something to skip. I took mine but this was long before the latest eruptions and the air quality was much better.

Yes. British Virgin Islands. However you can have a similar experience in Croatia. Our friends enjoyed Turkey too. The BVIs have islands which are close so sailing is minimised.
Costa Rica: depends what you want. Anything from £2000 to £4000. However do look at Families Worldwide. They have excellent itineraries at various prices. We use their wildlife holidays and find them excellent.
