Valencia tips

We’ve booked a villa near Moraira for a week but because of wanting to use air miles are flying out 2 nights before hand and back 2 nights later. So arrive Thursday and leave Monday but villa is Saturday to Saturday.

What would you do for these extra nights? At least one end we would stay in central Valencia I guess? Any areas that would be good to search for hotels/apartments? We are a family of 5 so apartment probably best. Or any other stop over points anyone would recommend on way or way back? I think we’ll hire a car to have in Moraira.

Valencia is a low-key but nice place. If you have a car you can visit the biopark and aquarium which are really fun for kids. Not sure about what it would be like staying in the town - we stayed in the suburbs with family.

The cathedral is worth seeing and is right in the centre of town, as is the wonderful food market. We used the hop on/ off buses which will take you all over the city so no need for a car. Alternatively you can hire bikes as there are many routes near the river (dried up now) through parks and gardens.

We stayed in a hotel near Colon which was in the heart of the shopping area and walking distance to the cathedral, food markets and train station etc.

There are lots of apartments close to the beach too, which was a really fun lovely area during the day and early evening.

However, between the beachfront and city centre was quite quiet (although we were there a bit outside beach season), so I wouldn’t plan to stay around there unless you plan to use the beach a lot or taxi to city.

Thanks everyone
I’ve been looking at apartments and am drawn to a few that are in the centre in the old town

The main week of our holiday will be by the beach so I think it will be nice to be right in the centre

Ok so for the first 2 night stint at the beginning of the holiday I’ve booked an apartment right in the centre in the old town near the market and cathedral I think

For the 2 nights at the end have booked a more modern flat near the science museum and park.

Now just worrying it will be uncomfortably hot in August there! Although both places claim to have air con
