NYC - booking a photographer

I'm off to NYC in April with my family and I've thought about booking a photographer to take some city shots of us all.

It would only be for a few hours max and as we're only there for a few days,I would need to be quick if I'm wanting to book.

Has anyone ever done this or has any recommendations?

None of you have phones?
Even a spare one you hand to a passer by/fellow sightseer who can take a few snaps?

If you're into photos hire someone for Central Park 20 mins perfect. Green in the fairground skyscrapers in the back. All you need is one to frame. After that just ask passer bys or do selfie's.

I’ve literally only ever known influences to do this when they’re trying to pretend they’re on a private jet or similar for the Instagram.

It’s an odd thing to do on a family holiday.

Thank for the responses.

I don't think it's weird otherwise I wouldn't have thought of it 🤔 unless I'm weird or a style influencer (of which I'm neither)

I will ask for strangers to take photos using my phone and we can take selfies, but neither would be as good as using professional camera 🙄

I know a photographer in my town and she advertises hour long family shoots so I don't see what the difference is, apart from it being in NYC ?

It is a family holiday, for a special birthday, so why not capture a few moments using a professional ?

Anyway .... I'll keep checking the thread to see if anybody has any relevant advice before searching on internet.
Maybe there aren't any photographs in NYC who do family shoots for normal people who are just there on holiday ... who knows ?

I've a Kodak Box Brownie. I can lend you it if you like. Lol.

Plenty of people do this, OP, and I know (of) a couple of photographers who offer this type of service in London and Paris, so there must be some in NY. I don’t have any recommendations but maybe you can type something like NYC family photographer on Instagram and find someone you like the style of?

AnneButNotHathaway · 02/03/2022 09:51

Agree with justasoul. OP, look up NYC photographers on Instagram and see whose style and service you like. I've heard of some people doing this in London, too, they do the photo shoot and basic editing or just give you all the RAWs for you to throw some Photoworks filter on them, I'm sure the same services should be in NYC, too.

lmnoh · 02/03/2022 10:06

Thank you .... I'll start the research.

Thanks for the offer of the camera @GentlemanJayFab .... but I'm not sure my baggage allowance would allow it.

Hi OP! I live in NY. This isn't a weird request at all.

I had my wedding and also recent family photos done by Kelly Williams: kellywilliamsphotographer.com/ she's fab and does them documentary style so they're not all posed and formal.

My best friend used Magenta by Melissa: www.instagram.com/magentabymelissa/?hl=en for her family photos and her newborn photo shoots.

ZiggysPFrow · 02/03/2022 18:35

Yes!
I did this, and I love the photos!!!
We booked through Air B and B and then the photographer used an app called Sweet Escapes so recommend you look on either of those.

I didn't know at the time, but my boyfriend had my engagement ring in his pocket so those photos are just so special to me

Thank you for the recommendations ... I'll take a look at the links.

Hi - check out this company called Shoott - they have photographers available in specific areas for different time blocks. You get 30 minutes with the photog and then you pay for the photos when you're done. We used them for some last-minute Christmas cards and they were amazing. Explore the locations where they will be in NYC during the time you are there!

Sorry I forgot to add the link - www.shoott.com/

Thank you @Jesse202 ....
What a coincidence as we booked with Shoott at the weekend 😀
