European Beach resort/ town with easy cycle routes/ paths?

SandalsAndSox · 27/02/2022 09:47

Can anyone help me find a European beach holiday destination ( not France) where my 18 and 20 year olds can have a beach holiday with a beach bars, perhaps a night club or two but also meets the following requirements for DH and me:
-flat easy cycle routes/ paths
-somewhere with a bit of interesting history/ culture
-not a huge city
-other activities apart from sunbathing available!

Any help appreciated :)

Hotel Baia in Cascais www.hotelbaia.com/en/ fits your brief but doesn’t have bike hire. There is, however, free bike hire in Cascais www.cascais-portugal.com/Guides/bike-ride-cycle-cascais-to-guincho-beach-bicas.html

What about something like this in the Netherlands www.dutch-biketours.com/cycling-holiday-beach-and-towns. Granted it's not all coast but it gives you an idea of what to do around the coast.

I know you said not France, but the cycle paths round Brittany are really good!

Otherwise the Dutch coast has lots of cycle paths and bars (e.g. Scheveningen which is a suburb of The Hague with lots of shops and museums, and clubbing in Rotterdam) but the weather isn't guaranteed.

It doesn’t tick all of your boxes, but I’m going to throw it in as a wildcard: Formentera.

It’s a island stunning to cycle around, with 100km of trails and it is virtually flat.

Your sons will be really safe and can ‘party’ at night in the beach resort of Es Pujols www.affittoformentera.com/en/es-pujols/

Thank you so much everyone!
I don’t think Northern European would cut it with the DC! Very interesting to hear about the Portuguese and Balearic options.

Lanzarote - if you stay in puerto del carmen you can cycle to the capital and beyond.beautiful scenery and plenty to do too

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 01/03/2022 07:40

I’d go Algarve. Tavira, Alvor, Lagos, Villa Moura are all beautiful, plenty to do and very accessible

Ciutadelle de menorca.

I'm bumping this as I'm also interested in any more suggestions.

Lanzarote . We are here now and amazing cycling . My teens are loving it . Very safe too and beautiful landscape .

I was also coming to add Lanzarote...we've just returned and although we didn't cycle there were loads of cycle paths and bike hires. We were in Puerto del Carmen, plenty of bars for the lads, loads of excursions available, ferry to Fuertaventura

SandalsAndSox · 03/03/2022 07:09

Thanks all! Can I ask where in Lanzarote?
We’ve been to Menorca recently so perhaps not.

I will also say for those interested n France that Ile De Re and the coast between La Rochelle area towards Chataillon Plage is great for flat cycle paths. Not what we want in a holiday this time overall, though.

The Costa brava is wonderful for cycling. The areas (Garraf) etc south of Barcelona are incredible.
