Cardiff - dog friendly

I've never been to Cardiff so have decided to try it for my 40th in May.
I absolutely want to go to Barry Island and would love to do the gavin & stacey tour.

I wondered how dog friendly Cardiff is? Would it be the best place to base ourselves?

Any other recommendations of places that are a must to visit?

Cardiff is a big city. Lovely big park in the centre of town, but really it depends how comfortable your dog is with traffic and crowds. Lots of see and do, great museums, a castle or two, boat ride to the bay, theatres, interesting architecture, fantastic restaurants. Not ideal for a dog, I wouldn't have thought (but I don't have a dog).

St Fagan's open air museum on the edge of the city is wonderful and allows dogs on leads (but not in the historic buildings).

Barry is a seaside town about half an hour's drive from the centre of Cardiff.

The countryside around Barry, known as the Vale of Glamorgan, extends round to Swansea Bay and is very pastoral and attractive. Some nice beaches, interesting towns and villages, good walks.

Thank you for the info.

Would Swansea or Vale of Glamorgan be a better choice do you think?
