you expect us to talk to you

bratnav · 02/01/2008 13:22

Hey it's the advantage of being divorced, you always have someone to foist the DCs onto....

where's Kefalonia?

mindalina · 03/01/2008 10:14

Oooh how lovely you lucky things we went to Kefalonia the year before last before I had ds. We stayed here in the apartment at the bottom left - right by the pool fantastic stuff. It was gorgeous, and the beaches are lovely. Don't know about doing things though, I was pregnant and lazy so we just sat around the beaches and the pool for a week

I went with DP and the boys in September - we went to Lassi

Have been before to Lixouri.

Skala/Katelios is nice also. Fiskardo is a bit up its own arse

I LOVE Keflalonia.

bratnav · 03/01/2008 10:16

Thanks Mindalina, that looks gorgeous. We are basically looking for beach/pool/walks/bit of history, and hopefully not too many of other peoples children!

How far from the beach was it?

SheikYerbouti · 03/01/2008 10:17

Lasssi is good because it is is only a 20 min walk/5 min bus ride to the main town Argosoli - where there are some fab resturants (Namely Portside, on the erm, portside)

We styed at the Olive Gradens in Lassi - beuatiful, if you don;t mind a bit of a hill climb

bratnav · 03/01/2008 10:18

Oooh, thanks Sheik, that's great

Olive Gardens is in the First Choice brochure - you get stunning views from the pool.

Lassi also good as a 20 min coach ride from the airport

robin3 · 03/01/2008 10:23

I stayed in Skala many moons ago and it was lovely. Fiskardo is also beautiful but more of a fishing village for the rich. Lucky you.

libralady · 03/01/2008 10:24

I am so jealous. Been to Kefalonia 4 times, last time last summer when it was 46 degrees!
Have alsway stayed in Lassi/Fanari. The Hotel Galaxy by the Fanari Lighthouse is a friendly family run hotel. Last time we stayed in Pefanis Studios in Lassi, up a hill but had great views over the sea to the Lixouri Peninsula.
Make sure you visit:
Fiskado, Assos, Sami, Melisanni Lake, Drogarati Caves, Robola Wine Company, Mount Eonos, St Gergious Castle, Church of St Gerassimo.
As for beaches, Antisamos is my favourite as you can snorkel with the fish adn it wonderful. Xi beach on Lixouri peninsula is flat and sandy and you can wal out for metres before it gets too deep. Myrtos Beach has a wonderful view from the cliffs, but beware of the under current.
Make sure you go to Oskars restaurant on the Fanari Road for a brilliant night for food and entertainment.
Hope this helps. If you need anymore info just let me know.
LLxx
P.S. Any room in your luggage for me?

SheikYerbouti · 03/01/2008 10:27

Oh God Oskars

He will force his leaflets on you (if you go to Lassi) and you will be subjected to his "I am the Greek Tommy Cooper and I love the Greek Jokes, tricks and a greek blah b;ah" troutine BUT the food at his place is very nice and the accommodation there is meant to be ok as well. He has a website.

Other restaurants in Lassi worth going to are Phaedra, Mystic Nights (I think it's called) and Nefeli

SheikYerbouti · 03/01/2008 10:29

If you want a nice hotel on the beach, the Mediteranee in Lassi looked lovely, and they have a nice shop there

(I am a Kefalonia geek)

If you want to stay away from kids (and who can blame you ) we went in Setember and it was lovley, not too hot and hardly any kids. (so ours got all the extra fuss!)

mindalina · 03/01/2008 10:56

Lefteris village is maybe 15 minutes from the beach one way, and about the same to the harbour the other side (nice restaurant there, btw), but it is at the top of a reasonably steep hill. It wasn't steep enough that I wouldn't go there again, but I would (as we did last time) make sure I never needed to walk up at midday ;)

libralady · 03/01/2008 12:38

Other restaurants in Lassi I recommend are Ionio and Il Gabbiano.
Premier in Argostoli Sqaure had the most fantastic gateaux and desserts.
Also the Captain's Table in Argostoli does a wonderful dish with Chicken Breasts in a Baileys and Walnut Sauce.

bratnav · 03/01/2008 13:33

Thank you all so much, that is incredibly helpful info.

libralady, there might be room, but DP wil probably assume I have brought you along to fulfil his ultimate fantasy (3 guesses what that is), how about I send a postcard?
