Car hire - is a 7 seater big enough for 6 people?

Wanting to hire a car this summer on holiday. There will be 4 adults and a 14 year old and an 11 year old. Rental companies seem to offer Peugeot 5008 or Opel Zafira tourer or similar. I'm wondering if that type of car would be big enough for the 6 of us AND luggage.
Any experience? We drive a normal 5 seater so not really sure about how much bigger a 7 seater is when bags are included.

I have driven an 8 seater minivan and a 7 seater (possibly a Dodge Caravan) in the USA on different days during the same holiday. The minivan looked like a monstrous beast but the driving experience was really no different between the two.

I don't know how the vehicles on offer compare with what you get in the US, but I'd say don't rule out a larger vehicle if it allows you to share the driving.

Mostly what seems to be on offer is 7 seaters that are really 5+2 or 9 seaters. The price for a 9 seater is kind of beyond our budget I think. We're flexible in where we go so I might look at going somewhere by train instead, to a city where we won't need a car, or then hiring a car for day trips from the city. Or maybe hiring a 5 seater and taking our own 5 seater, but limiting the distance to only a couple of hours.
The only thing is we'd hoped to go further north to escape the heat and that means a longer drive.
Thanks for all the input.
