Right, I'd love to send hubby away to finish writing his book. Somewhere quiet, if at all possible with views of mountains or lakes. Within the UK or within easy reach from a European airport.

I'd choose Holm House

Vacua · 01/01/2008 12:39

how come he gets mountains and lakes and peace and quiet and some of us have to squat under the stairs with only cobwebs, fingerprints and empty champagne bottles for inspiration?!

what is that extreme oop north place, cumbria? northumberland? that sort of thing?

WideWebWitch · 01/01/2008 12:39

and Chonky's just been and said it was fab

scorpio1 · 01/01/2008 12:40

i went to Perpignan in France a few years ago - nice mountain views and it has an airport.

Holm house looks fab but is completely not dh's style. A rustic log cabin somewhere would be more like it.

michaelad · 01/01/2008 12:46

and it's supposed to be just for him on his own. He deserves to finish his book in peace. He bends over backwards for all of us all the time

oh, wickedwaterwitch..you are on to some serious winners there. Will have to contact some of the owners to find out more about the cottages.

Keep 'em coming!

any more ideas anyone?

OP posts:
chonky · 01/01/2008 18:51

oh yes Holm House .

OK - not his thing....what about a cottage in Pembrokeshire? Really wild and rugged coastlime, and I swear there's a microclimate around St. Davids which makes it warmer than the nat average. Have some specific suggestions if that's of interest?

How romantic, being holed up for winter writing a book.

chonky · 01/01/2008 18:52

Psst WWW (apols for hijack) - are you going to try HH in Feb?

LIZS · 01/01/2008 18:54

Lucerne about an hour by train from Zurich. Think it is the Seeburg which is on the waterfront or look at resorts of Weggis or Vitznau at the foot of the Rigi peak (linked to Lucerne by boat)

WideWebWitch · 01/01/2008 19:29

Chonky, I think we might, realised today it's reviewed it the new Mr&Mrs Smith too, it looks vair nice. The only thing is the distance, would prefer nearer as I think it'll take 3 hours to get there. But still, worth it by the sound of it.

michaelad · 02/01/2008 15:33

yes chonky, please suggest away!!

Here you go...

Trevacoon is WONDERFUL , it really is. We stayed in the B&B as opposed to the s/c cottage, but the decor and character of the place are great, and I can't imagine the cottage is any different. On a clear day you can see Ireland. Stunning. Great pub locally in Porthgain too

Trevacoon

We've also stayed in some of these cottages (Ty Gwartheg and Ty Gwilym). They're done to a really high standard, so very comfy.

St. Davids Peninsula Cottages

Hope that helps.

Oh, and I've never stayed here, but have always wanted to (we have visited and the location and the house are idyllic):
