Culture and Activity Holiday with Teens

mamacoast · 06/02/2022 15:25

Hi there

Our ideal trip to Europe would start with 3 nights in a city to soak up the culture and then we'd move to the mountains/lake for an activities based holiday eg walking, kayaking, cycling, zip wires.

Any recommendations, please? The teens are 14 and 16.

Thank you.

Sounds like the perfect holiday. We have done similar but in the us and Canada. Definitely also interested. My teens are the same age (but will be a year older by the summer). Inthink the alps are great for those activities but I’m not so sure about which city to match it with…..

Austrian Alps and Vienna? Innsbruck is really nice but not sure if enough for 3 days.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 06/02/2022 15:33

Barcelona and then an activity holiday in the Pyrenees.

Canoeing down the Ardeche river?

Plenty of French cities to visit on the way.

P.S. You might also find some good ideas if you have a look at the itineraries from adventure companies, such as Explore or Exodus.

I took my teens on this a few years ago. It was a good mix of culture and activities.

Slovenia!!!

Twotothreeagain · 06/02/2022 20:43

Munich, then a few days around Garmisch/Mittenwald.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 06/02/2022 20:48

Bordeaux. Wonderful city then bob over to the coast where you can base yourself by a lake for water sports an easy cycle from the ocean for even more water sports.

Croatia is also good, some fab history in the cities and surrounded by sea for sailing, Kayaking, diving.... we liked Pula.

MissAmbrosia · 07/02/2022 10:36

2nd the Munich/Bavaria idea.

Croatia - fly into Split, enjoy the history as well as activities like zip wire and white water rafting. Move onto the island - Viz for instance

Thank you everybody. We are planning a trip to Austria - 2 cities and then Lake Constance for water sports.

Slovenia is lovely but the capital would take about an afternoon. I'd second the Ardeche. Maybe fly into Lyon. It's a fine city, great food, quite a lot to see including some Roman ruins. Then off down the Route de Soleil or hop on a TGV south.
