Do they fly direct? Assuming you are in the UK. I wouldn’t want an even longer journey! No stops ic I was booking. Little to choose between them I would have thought.

MaizeAmaze · 06/02/2022 15:17

Are you on the uk? Fly direct with virgin.

HK borders are shut currently, unless you have a HK ID card, and hotel quarantine for 21 days on arrival, although I think this is about to be shortened to 14 days.

I wouldn't be booking flights to HK right now

MaizeAmaze · 06/02/2022 15:18

But to answer the question, I have a slight preference for Qatar. Both are good tho.

Frazzled2207 · 06/02/2022 15:21

I take it you know about 21 day quarantine. There are few direct flights currently for a reason.

Can’t comment on Emirates but Qatar is fine.

LongDuckDong · 06/02/2022 15:33

@MaizeAmaze I did look at virgin but the planes only have single seats in Upper class on that route and I want to be able to sit next to my husband.

Happy to have a non direct flight, like to check out the lounges.

If you fly Qatar and travel UK-DOH-HKG return in Business Class on a paid booking, make sure you join the British Airways Executive Club before you travel and add your BAEC number to your Qatar booking.

You should get 560 tier points for the four long haul flights. I think at the moment you only need 450 tier points for silver status, although it might be 600 points now. With silver status you get benefits like lounge access when flying economy on BA which could be useful if you will likely travel with BA or one of their partner airlines.

I would highly recommend QSuite! I flew QSuite to Singapore back in November 2019 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Have you looked at flying Cathay Pacific in business? They have an excellent product and no layover.

I echo @Bandol advice but you need to make sure if you’re aiming for Silver - you need to take four BA/Iberia revenue flights to anywhere (including any domestic flight) to achieve it

Bandol · 06/02/2022 17:44

@Hairbrush123 that's a very good point I forgot that you need the 4 BA or Iberia flights for silver status.

EileenGC · 06/02/2022 17:55

I would choose Qatar simply because I’m BA Exec Club and any points towards silver or gold status are welcomed. Otherwise they’ll both be fine. Any difference or preference in timings?

Yellow85 · 06/02/2022 18:26

I’ve flown a few different airlines to Hong Kong and for me Cathy’s Pacific wins hands down.

LongDuckDong · 06/02/2022 19:22

I do like Cathay but they are financially unstable and the government won't bail them out. Lots of holiday companies won't touch them right now.

On C4 at the moment is Luxury Holidays for Less, and there’s a section on how to get Business class seats for less - it might be worth watching it. As far as those 2 airlines go, I’ve flown on both but only as a standard fare passenger. I much preferred Emirates.
